Haurchefant - Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

Saddest moment in the game ever so far :( I cried...

That final HW quest with the objective "visit an old friend" i broke out in tears but i knew where i had to go.

A fine resting place overlooking the city he loved so much.

By far the saddest scene in any MMO I ever played. Whereas all the other NPCs seemed to have this routine of sending you on dangerous missions cause you're the WoL, this guy always seemed to care for you. Every time he had to send you to a dangerous place he wanted to go with you and help, was always worried about your health as well.

In a sense one should not even be surprised that he would die this way, yet it hits so hard when it actually happens. We will never forget you Haurchefant. May you rest in peace and may bards sing of your heroic tales for centuries.

I cried so badly at this moment. Probably just as much as when the ARR story ended. The fact that he loved the Warrior of Light, female or male, and sacrifices his life to save yours still still makes me so sad :( After all we went through together...

Man, that scene still gets me to this day. I think a big part of it, beyond the fact that Haurchefant is wonderful for reasons a bunch of other people have already described, is the way the WoL is animated, they look absolutely broken. They try to put up a smile for his sake, but the moment he's gone they're just left there, unbelieving. I could be wrong, but I can't remember any point before this in the story where the WoL looked so.. well, again, broken

It was at this moment...my Dark Knight went full embrace of the flame of the abyss and kicked Zephirin's ass five ways till sunday. Seriously as soon as Thordan let him come out I plunged myself at him and salted earth bblew all cooldowns over and over....I swear he had little chance to scream out a coherent word....all parties aggro went on him, we didn't care bout Thordan until Zephirin was dead.

Played through the scene yesterday and wanted to know what it sounded like in English and I am surprised to say in the first time in history the German version was better. "I am finally so close to you, yet I don't feel you. Please don't be sad. My... Hero"

Patch 6.2 has now altered this scene! Alphinaud is now present and tries to heal him, fails, and has a voice acted line where he explains the wound refuses to mend.

So in the past year, starting Dec 25th of 2018, I have been playing 14 and have been loving it. When I got to right before The Vault, (About mid-April, I was taking my time because life), I was incredibly enamored with Haurchefant, I specifically dyed and redid my character's hairstyle because at that point, in my headcanon he had become my blood brother, he well and truly cared about the Warrior of Light and did everything in his power to help... And then I beat The Vault, and then he was gone.... And I never felt more powerless from a cutscene. And I should've seen something like this coming, he *would* be the kind of person to take a blow for what people consider an untouchable warrior because he doesn't want any harm to come to you, but it still hit so hard.

I just got to this part this morning... didn't hit me in the feels until I rewatched it.

My character looked so sad and hurt, and only now it hurts me. Lol...this game man.

i'm relatively new to video games and completely understood the capacity to get emotionally invested in them-- that is, until i watched this scene and started genuinely wholeheartedly sobbing. i'm gay, i don't have romantic character investment in haurchefant, but to my warrior of light, this was one of her best friends and someone who believed in her when the entire world betrayed her. this hit so hard and legitimately devastated me. i was not at all expecting that from this game and even through the sadness, i was delighted to have hit upon this gem.
