Показать описание
Learning how to use FreeCAD to create assemblies joined with fasteners (nuts, screws, washers and bolts). We will learn the basics of the Assembly 4 workbench, a FreeCAD add on along with the fasteners WB. Using both Part and Part Design mobels and assemble them together. Easy on the beginner we will understand what a local coordinate is and how parts are assembled and linked together. Starting in Free cad we create a part design object then create a part workbench object. Will then connect these together in an assembly using iso standard threaded nuts and bolts which can be customised.

This course is aimed to teach the fundamentals of free CAD understanding the basics but delivering via teaching you different workflows.

We aim to teach you freeCAD in a practical way.

to keep up to date with the video releases.

Your videos are amazing, and they are helping me to learn FreeCAD. I came from CATIA v5, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD, so these videos are incredibly helpful!

im using FreeCAD 1.0.0RC2 and all whats shown in this video is still working. if you want Edit Placement of a part be shure you select the part for example the Clip inside the Assembly tree and not the Clip or the Rectangle outside. thanks for the nice tutorials!

"Model" was renamed to "Assembly" since, in case anybody else wonders as well.

Great Video 👍

The step placing screw at holeaxis (23:45) doesn't seem to work in 0.20.2.
The axis is created in the body, but placing a part only lists LCS on the part level.

Found it. The holeaxis can be moved to the parent level, then it works.
(I created parts and assembly in the same file and probable did something slightly differently)

Thank you very much. Very helpful video to help get me going on Assembly 4.

Good video, thank you. Drawing a single part has only so much value. Drawing a part may be complicated or simple like your demo part. It is the assembly of parts that makes FreeCAD valuable. Thank you.

Thanks as always - this was a great tutorial and definitely helped advance my knowledge. Such a good series to follow.

Great video and thank you so much for the explanation and help. I appreciate it. On the topic of fasteners, I can put a thread on a shaft by using the die, but cannot figure out how to make it a body that I can insert into an assembly. I am going to experiment with it, now that I saw the create part button you showed. I am hoping this is the right way to do it. Thank you again for your great tutorials. It helps this old guy!

Awesome video. I built this assembly alongside your video. I spent a lot of time stopping the video and backing up and rewatching many parts of it to get my build just right. Many of the problems I encountered have to do with you building from FreeCAD 0.20 and me building from FreeCAD 0.21. Several things have been renamed, such as 'import part' is now 'insert part', and popup dialogs are different, etc. It was a great teaching tool. And I got through it and learned a lot. So thank you!

I have a question: At the end, I tried taking this assembly and exporting it as a STL Mesh, like I do for my other prints. Opening the .STL file in Cura, it reverted back to an unaligned pile of parts, and missing the extra Clip part. So, what should I export the assembly as, in order to properly slice it? I don't need to print the example, but I did want to slice it for printing.

Hi to UK, and thanks for the great tutorials!!!
Hobby woodworker here. i started out with FreeCAD to do my furniture drafts and techdraws for woodworking. Therefore i use the Assembly WB. I did some examples in A2plus and Assmbly4 WB. Which one, do you recommend for the future for my needs?

Also, the word "Model" has been replaced by the word "Assembly". I feel that the Assembly workbench has changed slightly since this video was made. Also "Import Part" is now "Insert Part".

You did a great KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) vid. Waiting for a couple more on Assembly 4.

At 24:03 you selected the bolt and attached it to the clip using Edit Placement Of Part, however that icon does not enable when you select the bolt, unless I've done something wrong? I had to select the clip and do the opposite values to get the bolt in the hole. I'm on FC 0.22dev 38314.

Seems like a complicated and very limited process to assemble things compared to Autodesk Inventor for example.
They need to fix that. Needs to have assembly constraints (similar to the process in 2D sketch mode) where you can just click on the surfaces (or axes/planes) of each part and chose to align them in a certain way.
Then you also have the ability to drag things and visualize how they will move against each other when not fully constrained. Can be very useful.

So not ready to replace Inventor yet :) Even for basic stuff beyond 1 part. But will get much closer if that is fixed.

Nice video, well explained. I was going to ask for a comparison of the different assembly workbenches (and maybe some guidance over which one to use when). But you mention that you'll be doing that in the future so I'll just keep an eye on your channel. ;-)

Is the edit placment of part not working on 0.21.1? When adding the fastner, it's not in the correct place. Had to drag the screw onto the Assembly tree, then it worked.

Upgraded to FreeCAD .21.1 along with most recent Assembly 4 and Fasteners addons. Some naming conventions are a little different such as Insert Part or Add Assembly. The locations of the video are the same with the same icons, so don't be alarmed if it's named different. Def be careful where you're adding parts for the assembly or fasteners. I ran into an issue trying to move them back in the right position so I could edit position.

Is this only for Assembly workbench then ?- it is amazing workbench but hardly usable for Part and minus, would be nice to have a lets say a cube and do the minuts with faster to get a proper hole - (even for head, if wanted), But since it does not support clearance if I am not mistaken, it is not so much useful :( unfortunately
