Introduction:
Every year Azim Premji Foundation conducted Summer Workshops in which teachers participated voluntarily for their professional development. In the same light in this during summer vacations, we conducted the
three-day science workshop aimed to promote scientific temperament among participants through problem-solving, brainstorming, and interactive activities. The workshop provided a platform for participants
to enhance their scientific knowledge and skills while aligning with the aims and vision of NCF-SE 2023 (National Curriculum Framework for Science Education). This report summarizes the activities and highlights
of each day, emphasizing the workshop's objectives, ice-breaking activities, experimental design, technology integration, and overall outcomes.
Overview and Concept: Science is a constantly evolving body of knowledge that allows us to comprehend the world through a process of inquiry. This process enables us to gain accurate insights about the world and cultivate scientific values and skills, including asking questions, forming hypotheses, conducting investigations, thinking critically based on evidence, fostering creativity, understanding cause-and-effect
relationships, and making informed decisions. The introduction to scientific processes begins at the Foundational Stage in the school curriculum. During the Preparatory Stage, students further explore
scientific processes and observe simple patterns and relationships in their natural surroundings. This serves as a foundation for understanding scientific concepts. It is only in the Middle Stage that science is formally
introduced as a separate subject. During this stage, an integrated approach combining Biology, Chemistry, and Physics is employed. This holistic approach nurtures essential competencies across all scientific
disciplines, utilizing connections between different areas of study to help students make sense of their observations and experiences. The focus of this particular workshop is on the guidelines outlined in the NCFSE 2023 for science teaching. It emphasizes how educators can foster scientific understanding and develop a scientific temperament in their students by emphasizing the interconnectedness of science with other
disciplines.
Conclusion: The three-day science workshop successfully fostered a scientific temperament among participants through problem-solving, brainstorming, and interactive activities. The ice-breaking activities created a lively and collaborative environment, promoting team building and camaraderie. The workshop focused on designing experiments, comparing findings, exploring scientific concepts, and integrating technology in science education. Participants actively engaged in critical thinking, teamwork, and analytical skills development.
The workshop effectively aligned with the aims and vision of NCF-SE 2023, providing a valuable platform for participants to enhance their scientific knowledge and skills in a dynamic and technology-driven educational setting.
