Why NASA Put The Moon In A Pool

Показать описание
NASA has been using swimming pools to train astronauts since the 1960s. The largest is the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL), which holds roughly 9 olympic pools worth of water and has contained not just mockups of space station and telescope parts, but also the Moon!

This trivia about water _actually_ being blue was worth the cost of admission. Totally cool to know that.

ha... I seriously thought water was clear and any larger body of water simply reflected how blue the sky was.... it's kinda awesome how the sky and water are somehow independently the same color, imagine if one was very different, that would be a nightmare

I love the way your excitement is barely contained in your voice Savannah through almost the whole video . I can tell that you love space and all things related so very much .

Idk but they should definitely consider putting a pool on the moon.

This lab is making the “eight year old boy who still wants to be an astronaut” part of me lose his ever loving mind

That pin looks like the astronaut coming put of a lake in an episode of Doctor Who.

Check out Destin (Smarter Every Day)'s recent video where he got to film underwater testing for the upcoming Artemis moon missions!

This is the best redstone door ever. One of the best ideas yet. I do like the doorbell. I hope we get a full "giant" vidoe

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "blue moon." Eh? Eh? I'll be here all week, folks. Don't forget to tip your waitstaff. 😂

I got to see the NBL in person last year. It's very impressive. They had an Orion mockup floating at one end and a couple of people swimming laps at the other.

I remember watching this video back in the 1960s. It was an exciting time to be alive.

Meters and gallons? Have we learned nothing from NASA mixing measurement standards?

how often do astronauts have to make real space walks? I get that they must know how to do it since there is no way to call in a repair crew in space or what not, but in every media or filmed mission you see it kinda feels like they just send people out there to connect some loose cable or twist a screw. whats up with that? does a space station/shuttle really need that much external maintenance?

Wait there's More !!! With a lunar base plan in the works, I am sure that the pool will be tripled in size as they prepare for construction training for the base and future missions on some the asteroids .
