Could someone just put in some Dido groves and slide little ends in and out and add another Dido groove at the top and slide a wood slat on top and turn said tool well into a drawer? I'm looking to build a work bench myself. I am just getting started in the woodworking Hobbie with my nephew. I took woodworking class in high school and there is a lot they never taught us like how to sharpen hand tools and how to maintain a planer or how to sharpen a planer iron

You can also stick in a board that fills it when you want a larger flat benchtop.

You can also put toggle clamps on the back and cut some boards to width of the tool well and varying thicknesses to use as a backstop for hand planing, an insert to simply fill the well in if you need to, and many other things someone smarter than can come up with.

I'm in the tool well camp. The extra edges open up a variety of clamping options big or small and it allows a long planing stop fitted into the well for easy traversing of boards.

My Bench is a Roubo hybrid w/ a tool well. I love it.

I just stick my shop vac inside the well for now. I made mine much deeper. I'm thinking of adding a removable second layer (like a bunk bed). I have been storing a lot of my most commonly used tools in it until I finish the under bench storage I'm working on.

I built a tool well in my workbench but i also do a lot of home renovations. It was a mistake its always filled with crap i did opened one end last year and now its less filled but damn, next one no well for me!

On the Moravian bench the well can be removed if you dont have a vacuum.
But thats even less work to clean thanks Rex handy idea.

Yeah nah. Not a fan. But then I don't collect a bunch of tools on my bench. Got my workshop setup so all my tools are within reach in the tool racks/ cabinet.
