Rusty Vintage Belt Sander Machine - Restoration

In this video, I am restoring a rusty vintage belt sander machine that was in extremely poor condition. I bought this tool from a flea market, and it was completely rusted, missing essential parts, and non-functional. Some components were broken, while others were heavily corroded.

I started the restoration by fully disassembling the belt sander, carefully removing each part. I then cleaned all components using kerosene and a wire brush to eliminate rust and debris. During the cleaning process, I discovered cracks and damages that needed repair.

To bring this machine back to working condition, I welded the damaged areas, primed, and repainted the body to restore its original look and durability. Some parts underwent cold bluing for additional protection and a more authentic finish. The broken and missing components were either repaired or replaced. Once all parts were restored, I reassembled the entire machine and tested its functionality.

The transformation was remarkable, turning an unusable, rusted machine into a fully operational belt sander.

La restauración está muy bien, aunque es evidente que fue envejecida artificialmente

Strange, the rust is on the outside only, but on the inside it looks like new. And the screws come out easily. I have machines with less rust than this and the screws never come out and are rusty and break. I use a lot of W40.

Hi. Your work is very beautiful and good to make the device that you are rebuilding and showing it to be complete.

Under the rust and covered parts look almost like new. This unit was forcibly rusted on the outside.

Overall, a nice job on restoring the machine. Why not use the steel wire wheel on the grinder for all of the parts, aside from those that have many angles? it would have been a little quicker.

I would guess it was maybe as much as 20 years old. While you did a nice job and it looks very nice when finished, I have to question why? a new one of these is available for less than $100, and it appears you did a lot of restoration. I really don't see the point when it is not rare, valuable, nor old. Although having done some restoration, I know completing a job like this is satisfying.

There is some really meaty metal on that sander, I bet it was expensive when new. John.

Chosen a bit on the easy side, no repairs, no finishing or repairing of damage, just polishing and spraying, could be better.
