On May 18, 2019 at the Main Library, baseball historian Larry Phillips gave a talk on Frederick Waterman, one of the pioneer players of baseball. Phillips’ presentation followed the life of the 1868-1870 Cincinnati Red Stockings’ third base man from the streets of New York City to a lonely grave in Cincinnati. Waterman experienced the highest of highs while playing the National Game only to face the reality of life that did not include baseball. This talk was part of the Library's celebration of the 150th anniversary of Reds baseball during the summer of 2019.
