This prehistoric bird looks like it wants to murder you in your sleep. That's probably why its gaze is affectionately nicknamed the "death stare. Known as a shoebill, this bizarre bird found meme fame because of its bone-chilling stare. Even Joe Rogan gave the shoebill a social media shoutout. But this bird has other captivating attributes. Oddly enough they're pretty docile. In the wild it's not uncommon for them to approach you out of curiosity. Their sign of respect is bowing, and oddly enough if you bow toward them they bow back!

I lived in Uganda and South Sudan. These birds are so cool. If you bow to them when you walk up to them and be open and slow, they will bow back. Then you can walk slowly up to them and pet them.

My 5th grade teacher taught us about shoebills. I was fascinated at how they've had a direct line of evolution since t-rex. I would love to meet one someday.

these birds look scary and menacing but theyre actually like really chill and its cool, its sad that theyre starting to die off
