I like that you expand into different people of design and fashion, a lot of YTers only seem to do Kibbe, Kitchener and Seasons.

For anyone who is interested in vintage/old hollywood glamour. I would also recomend the Bombshell Manual of Style by Kimberly Forrest and Lauren Stover. Even if you're not interested in following its tenents it's a fun read on the percived style rules of the bombshell actresses from the golden age of Hollywood. You can also usually find it second hand for quite an affordable price.

We had "What Not To Wear" in the US as well, but it was with Stacy London and Clinton Kelly. I used to threaten to turn my mom into the show when she would wear embarrassing things 🤣 It was a mean show, in retrospect, but I legitimately did learn so much about styling and makeup. Carmindy was the reason I became a makeup artist.

I'm a big fan of Trinny and Suzannah too and I remember them from back in the day. They were hilarious.

Do you know about the American version of What Not To Wear? It had a similar brutal vibe, and they kind of funneled everyone into a similar business casual personal aesthetic. The host Stacy London has since come out as regretting her restrictive, one size fits all advice. There’s a great mini YouTube doc about it that I remember watching. Thought you might be interested in that discourse!

Tysm for sharing these with us and for helping to direct us to options that suit us! I remember hearing about David Zyla’s book from you a while ago and I like the concept because the association it would create between certain colours and certain things seems like a very useful tool from a psychological perspective. But I can’t figure out my colours for the life of me 😂

I really love the idea of leopard print is a neutral, it definitely is for someone I know! She almost exclusively wears black and leopard print with pops of gold or silver. It’s iconic. The concept also fits with what I’ve been doing for myself lately, I like the idea of neutrals because I like the idea of everything mix and matching so I can minimise my fashion consumption. But I actually feel down if I dress in neutrals too much, I love having a variety of colours. So I’ve been trying to pick some colourful colours that I can use in the same way most people use neutrals! Also I’ve just decided floral is a neutral and no one can change my mind

I'm really interested in that David Zyla essence color, romantic color, dramatic color, tranquil color etc. stuff. Especially locking down that firey romantic side with accessories. That's my goal for the spring season. Great recommendations! ❤

I do the same thing! I've collected these same books over the years. I have all of Trinny and Susannah's (Trinny makes plenty of fun of her own "flat arse", "thick ankles" and "short legs" as well so it's not all directed at Susannah). I agree Anoushka's book is the best, best, best for beginners and if I had to pick just one that's what I'd recommend because she packs so much in. Other people have used the 3 word method for a long time but Alison's way of breaking it down makes it much easier to use. That's a close second to Rees for practicality. I wish someone would do a modern color theory book.

I can also highly recommend the book "In the Dressing Room with Brenda" by Brenda Kinsel, especially her idea of fashion modules and fashion planning for the next season, adapting it to your own life situations... I really liked it inspiring.💛

What Not To Wear was also an American TV series from 2003-2013- Stacy London & Clinton Kelly would ambush someone at work who was referred by a friend & take her through an entire shopping trip & makeover -you can probably still find the episodes online or somewhere & would probably like it

Hi there, I've been diving into your work and I'm finding it very useful and refreshing. I had a consultation with David Zyla in 2016 and got Jeweltone Summer. Kitchener saw me as mainly high spirited with romantic a close second. I've never really liked the Zyla recs as they feel a bit boring, then Kitchener feels a bit too jaunty and gamine for me. I think you're right in saying it's important to take personality and preferences into account.
I've been looking at your style matrix and I think it's a really good concept. I'm definitely short and I would say medium round (Zyla said structure with some softness), but I'm having trouble deciding if I'm wide or narrow. Zyla did give me palazzo pants as a possibility. Would you have any tips on how to gauge that? Many thanks!

I have all trinny books from way back, and isn't it funny that back then cropped trousers didn't suit her, but now she do wear them, thats why for me it's hard to know do I wear cropped or not.
