Good solid advice. I use a GPS and have found I do much better if I split the difference between the back of green number and middle of green number unless there is a really good reason not to. For most golf holes, the real trouble is usually at the front of the hole and that strategy allows for a less-than perfect strike on my approach shots. My mantra is “Get the ball on the green, dummy! However you can!”
Also, I have found that when pitching over a bunker onto the green, taking one more club helps. For example, making that little pitch with my gap wedge instead of my sand wedge helps to make sure that I carry the bunker and “get the ball on the green, dummy!” It is true that every once in a while, those strategies will leave me with longer lag putts than I would like, but, on balance, I will trade an occasional 3 putt to avoid a big crooked number!

I use a watch for distance, works better for me. This year I really practiced my putting, 3 putts are a thing of the past, I find putting and the short game more important than whacking the Driver down the Fairways. Thanks for the tips.

5:28 damn right. Half of my strokes are taken with the putter! Practice with the putter is arguably more important than practice with the driver or any other club -- you use the putter on EVERY hole, even the driver doesn't get taken out 18 times a round (unless you play a course with REALLY long par 3's...)

Hi Alex. Love your strategy here. Is there any trick on breaking or shooting a par round? Understand that it would take a lot of work. I could do even par on 9 holes but then would mess up 1 or 2 strokes on the 2nd half. Thanks!

Really like my laser range finder. Also getting the mindset of making "solid" bogeys. I'll take a 5 over a 7or 8 anytime.

Really good one here Alex great points for the average golfer I use a laser or yardage book if the have one at the course I play (old school). Another one I say to beginner golfers is look at 5 per hole each hole is like a par 5 total up makes 90 so for those looking to break 90 look at each hole as a 5 Also for us Americans on here bin lid is a garbage can lid Incase you were wondering lol

Great video Alex. We see so much emphasis on hitting the driver longer and pure irons and without question it’s important to do. But on the course, trying to improve not just your hitting but your score and especially your enjoyment of the game, management of your game is so much more important at that moment. Putting to the bin ring and laying up can save you so many strokes, especially for beginning and senior or possibly less strong golfers.
Instead of negative thoughts about “I hit it short again “, let the layup be your target. It also applies to breaking into the 80’s too.
I use a golf app paired with my watch for yardages. Front, back and middle are accurate enough for my level of play.

Another easy one is to change all the pars to plus one. 3’s to 4, 4’s to 5, 5’s to 6. You’re not playing for par, bogeys are just fine to break 100 or 90. Takes the pressure off.

Sunday 29 pts with 5 Three Putts and 37 putts for the round

Monday 35 pts with 1 Three Putt and 30 putts for the round

Despite hitting it no where near as good from tee to green on Monday I scored better based on my putting alone
