Russian oligarchs hit with a one-off tax as Moscow becomes ‘cash strapped’

The Kremlin has proposed a one-off tax on its largest businesses to boost its finances as Russia becomes “cash strapped” as a result of the Ukraine war and being hit by sanctions, according to Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

“Here’s the crazy thing though, Russia’s first Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov told the BRC newspaper that the idea for this new tax came from the Oligarchs themselves and not the Kremlin,” Mr Greenwood said.

“This must be a world first – big business happily volunteering to pay more tax.

“Only in Vladimir Putin’s Russia.”
