Meredith is Killing it as Chief - Grey's Anatomy

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) manages to secure a triple organ transplant, help Link (Chris Carmack) with some tricky workplace romance advice and name Schmitt (Jake Borelli) the new Chief Resident. Some people are meant to be chief, and some aren’t. Derek and Bailey wanted to be chief, because that's the brass ring; you're supposed to want it. In the end they failed, because they weren't meant to sit behind a desk. Their gift is being in the OR. Being the head of their respective departments was exactly what they needed. It fulfilled their desires to "be the best" and to lead, but it also kept them in the OR. And then you have people like Webber and Meredith, who are just as skilled as Bailey and Derek. But unlike them, Webber and Meredith have this ability to see the bigger picture, and have all the right skills to make it work.

Seriously though, Mer has this intuition that really makes her shine as the chief. One look at Schmitt and she knows what’s up and what to do. Plus, from what I’ve seen of the series, Mer seems like one of those leaders that leads by example. Bailey and Richard really taught her well.

This is one of the better exposition scenes I have seen in a while. Serves a purpose in moving the current story forward, shows Mer is killing it as Chief (of course), and catches us on six months of Mer, Nick and even Zola!

Also gotta recognize Schmitt’s loyalty like he could have gone to another residency program and he probably would had been by now just months away from his boards to become an attending/fellow but he decided to stay in OB (which he hated) and wait til the residency program opened up 👏

That was funny, Schmit was going to ask to be the Chief Resident but Meredith didn't hesitate giving it to him. Like I know what ya want already, beside who else does he have to fight with for the position? Also there is no where else the Residency Program can go but up!!!

I just love glasses his character is one of the best and Maggie's character development is superb

Whilst Zola calling Nick would have been adorable, I get why Maggie didn't let her. What would have been better is that giving Maggie an idea and calling him herself! Although I would have wanted to see that scene. 😆

I love Maggie’s character so much this season. Thanks to the writers and Shonda for doing an amazing job on her character because she was so annoying.

just got finished watching s19e1 and omg, the new faces, seemed like i was watching s1e1. outstanding writing and story line. another home run for greys. i smell another 20 seasons folks. PS still missing the heck out of Mark Sloan😪

While the exchange with Link was funny, I wonder why he felt so worried about his hookup he had to report it to Meredith when he MUST know her history. She was obviously married to her boss and doesn't he remember DeLuca? Again it was a funny bit but just inconsistent.

Maggie is adorable! I wish I'd seen Zola try to call Nick lol.
