It shouldn't be debatable. They should get rid of it.

Maybe we could simply “keep the pennies we have in circulation and stop producing them”.

Really America, be intelligent about it - when it costs twice as much just to manufacture the penny, why would you? And, yes, here in Canada, we have done away with the penny without chaos or riots and it is only an issue in rounding up or down when you pay with cash. Most of us have gone to cashless transactions over 90 percent of the time anyway, so no coins are even required.

This is a hard thing to debate, but I use cash still sometimes and there are many people who do not have access to credit cards, debit cards, and they use cash, change, and even pennies to round up to a total. You can't take that away from people who are not able to have credit. In my area, businesses are asking for change. So perhaps let's leave this alone. And if you have a jar of peenies that annoy you, go give it to someone who may need it.

No, because every price will be rounded up, so it will hurt the poor. The cash shortage is bogus.

As a coin collector I would hate to see the penny go.

They didn't even mention that over half of the US Mint's production capacity is devoted to pennies. In a time of a coin shortage, why are such low value coins getting that much attention? Because so few people use pennies in a transaction compared to any of the other coins that pennies disappear from circulation for decades at a time.

To control the people and the food? And to get the copper needed for 5 g. Sociopaths. Shame on you for promoting disaster in people 's life and helping the rich maggots. Shame on you.

What about a "Two and a half cent coin" to replace the penny?

Benjamin Franklin: A penny saved is a penny earned? Future kid: what’s a penny?

No, It will increase inflation . Everyone will round up. Inflation will increase as much as 4%.

I think for even those who earn the least these days, their time is now worth more than the time spent bending over to pick up a penny on the ground.
It probably costs the taxpayer more to maintain the production of pennies that the actual value of pennies. And then there is the logistics of shipping and transporting them.
This is such a low priority issue- pennies aren't going anywhere.

Pennies are currency you can’t take away. They can really add up over time.

if you're one of those who are desperate to get rid of the penny are just desperate to make money from retailers being forced to round change up
