Whats been your experience in playing more than one character in the same game?

As usual your videos come out at the perfect time
My party is reaching the end of a multi-year campaign and our DM is bringing back every character that he possibly can that any of us played over the course of the adventure so he can properly end or extend as many story arcs as possible. Over one summer I only showed up periodically, and so created a bunch of interesting one-off characters, plus my three long-term characters. Itll be a lot of fun to involve them all, but I'll be playing like five or six characters in total over the next few weeks and its pretty daunting. Thanks for the video!

I played a Goliath Fighter and a Dragonborn Wizard together in the same campaign, and oh my god it was great. The DM told me those 2 were the light of the party and I noticed the rest of the players come out of their shells and join in on the RP (they didn't do much of anything before i brought in the Goliath). They both had this very comical banter between each other that always lead to the table burst out laughing at the way both of those people handled situations. I'd say just make em different. Have them interact and bring some life to the group rather than become a "support" character, someome who just aids in combat or whatevs. Great video!!

I just learned a fantastic new term. "Gollum it". That's brilliant. I'm stealing that.

This was so very helpful. My partner and I are doing one-player campaigns and both of us have been playing multiple characters. All these tips were stellar!

When you changed position in the chair and responded to yourself I literally gasped and said 'Woah out loud.... Brilliant

In my solo campaign I started yesterday, I'm playing two characters: one is a young teifling, never knew his father, fell in with a gang, that whole bit. The other is a middle-aged centaur with no recollection of his past who, as a result, often acts like a child, forcing character 1 into an awkwardly fatherly role.

How's that for a dynamic?

This is also very useful for "add-on" characters such as talking familiars, man-servants, etc - anyone who could potentially converse with other party members besides your main character could benefit from this advice to help differentiate them.

The acting tips are great! Not only for muktiple characters just plain roll player. Im so gonna show them to a few players I have that has real problems with performance.

I have a girl in my group who always plays 2 characters and she does it beautifully, to really help she makes sure they are different genders so she has to change her voice often.

I find that if a player wants to roleplay another character, a soft solution to this is letting them play a familiar, companion, or hireling involved with their main character. Give them a secondary character with less voice or impact on the story direction, who can still have some meaningful interactions with the rest of the party.

I don't always play D&D but when I do, Human Rogue/Thief is the way to go for me.
It just seems like the right class to pick. Especially if dual wielding daggers are available as an option.

Anyway, I once played as a Thief I nicknamed Cezar Nimblethorn. He was pretty much the snarky, playful and sarcastic guy in our party. Not the strongest or most overpowered unit (two other units got that covered) but definitely the fastest one. The best part was the small occasional back and forth banter he would have with the elf princess (who was the main archer of the group. Lets call her Sheena for now.). Especially since she was described as the serious stern no-nonsense type.
Unfortunately, his journey was cut short by a Cyclops who crit pummeled him when trying to defend Sheena from certain death. The beast was defeated by our OP mage but at a price. And at the very end of the campaign, the epilogue is that Sheena built a statue in Cezar's honor. The one who saved her life. A nice bittersweet ending for a carefree yet brave thief who grew as an orphan on the streets.
As for quirks he played with his daggers (in-game) and scratched his head (rl)

I always like trying to play a more challenging character, it helps me stay more engaged. I am currently creating a bard for my friend's campaign who doesn't believe in magic. Also, tonight is the finale for my first campaign I have been a GM for!

I played a tabaxi alchemist and, when she died, while the party was on a race against the clock to revive her, a shifter sorcerer. Thing is that the party liked the sorcerer so much they invite hom to every quest they can.

I have done this once as a player. My Ranger and Berserker. Good friends because of years of RP before playing them at the table...

They would constantly sling insults to relieve tension and made thw party (and players) laugh. The Zerker had an accent so it helped but in battle they worked as one.

When I talked as Bear I shifted left (as he is more of a southpaw) and right for Khongol. I am thrilled to see I did it right.

My first time playing in a full campaign I had to play 2 characters because of a shortage of players. Character 1 was a psychic male that was very outgoing and seduced every woman he came across, while Character 2 was a female spy that could use magic who was very reclusive and hated most members of the group and only cared about her own survival. I didn't really have them interact much because Character 1 was creeped out by character 2 and character 2 was disgusted by character 1, but Character 1 ended up becoming the leader of the party and talked his way through many bad situations, while Character 2 became the most over powered character in the group and everyone was terrified of her.

I’ve just recently started a dnd5e game as a Warlock, but as soon as I realised that pact of the chain at level 3 could potentially summon a talking familiar I knew I had to pick that, I can’t wait for my fellow players and DM to be introduced to an imp that hates being a familiar just so the two can have some banter when not much else is happening or to liven up combat.
“Oh wow you eldritch blast AGAIN? They’ll never see that move of tactical genius coming”
“Oh look how deep this well is, if only there was something small and disposable we could drop down it to find out if the drop’s survivable”
*rolls a nat 1
“Oh very good job, I couldn’t have done it better if my pupils were on fire and I had no ligaments”
etc. etc.

I actually came to this because I'm playing different characters in different sessions, but still keeping them all straight this is helpful!

Perfect timing, my group just had a session today where the possibility of us having 2 characters was presented
