Prioritizing Southeast Asia in American China Policy

August 1, 2023 — Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations and the 21st Century China Center at UC San Diego launch the Task Force on U.S.-China Policy report, “Prioritizing Southeast Asia in American China Policy,” which reflects what Southeast Asians want from the United States, and how they view U.S.-China competition in their region. Members of the Task Force include David Shambaugh, Gaston Sigur professor of Asian Studies, Political Science & International Affairs, and director of the China Policy Program at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University; Charlene Barshefsky, chair of Parkside Global Advisors and former U.S. trade representative; Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Karl Eikenberry, former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan; and Danny Russel, vice president for International Security and Diplomacy at Asia Society Policy Institute. Orville Schell, vice president and Arthur Ross director of the Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations, moderated the discussion. (59 min., 32 sec.)

America should just do less harm, that would be a miracle! How many millions has the US murdered in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, etc for no good reason? The US hasn't done much good at all!

Southeast Asia has been trading with China for more than 2000 years. America has been in existence for less than 250 years and began trading with Southeast Asia even more recently. It is without doubt that the US needs to make the effort to woo Southeast Asian nations, and not the other way round. 😊
