God’s Ways Are Not Our Ways

Fr. Mike describes exactly how God works with us, even though God’s ways are not our ways. It’s like when a person you’re living with asks “What do you want for dinner?” and you say, “Whatever you want.” He then starts offering suggestions, but you turn them all down. After a few minutes of back and forth you both notice that what you really meant was not, “Whatever you want,” but, “You tell me what you want, and then give me the freedom to choose among those options.”

This is a lot like the process God uses when you tell him, “Lord, just do what you need to do in my life.” People may not like the process, but it often works.

When we tell God “just do whatever you want” more often than not he tells us to choose from a list of options. He respects our free will. If you ask him to purify your heart, that’s going to require breaking it so he can heal it. Trust the process, even if it’s going to hurt, and God will lead you to greater things.

Father Mike, I've commented to most people I know that I've seen more families biking or walking together, Dad's playing with kids, kids playing outside, or just people walking their dogs than I have in the last 10 years combined. Also, the earth is cleaning itself up from our pollution. Yes, bad things are happening but there's a lot of good coming out of this crisis if we have eyes to see it

I've had two awful, painful, brutal heartbreaks within the past year, but this process has brought me profoundly closer to God. Before, I would've said God hated me and was punishing me, but I've learned through the accidental discovery of Fr Mike's videos that's not the truth at all. God allowed me to suffer through these heartbreaks, so I could learn about His love for me and respond accordingly when He called me to Him. I no longer believe God hates me when I suffer; instead, I feel His love and try to understand what He is teaching me. Opening my heart this way has been life changing, and it makes this suffering less painful. It still hurts, but I feel I am loved throughout. And I know it's all in His plan, so I surrender over and over.

Thank you Ascension and Father Mike! You are doing God's work!

I’m a recent convert (2 years ago, 4/1 was my Catholic birthday!) and come from a secular family, so I’ve been kind of on my own with studying and practicing my religion in general.
