A little more clarification to this. Whats buried is the drilling head since its already used up, and would cost more to scrap it underground and pull it out the raw materials, they opt to burry it as a pseudo support structure for the road. The automated tunnel conveyer and builder behind the drill head is whats extracted and repurposed since that consist roughly 85% of the whole tunnel borers costs

Fun fact, this was what happened to the boring machines used to build the Channel tunnel, but only the ones from the UK side. The French TBMs were salvaged and dismantled.

Moral of the story:

Once they're done using you, they will burry you and forget you.

As a Civil History Archeologist in 4080AC i can confirm that the local custom of the time was to create these large intricate networks of tunnels that would later be inhabited by subterranian alphoids, and the machinery idol was laid to rest in concrete sarcophoguses where they were beleived to pass on to an eternal machine afterlife with infinite electricity and no break downs.

An archeologist would think this is grimlock after he found a metal machine 1000 years later

TBMs are often customized for specific soil or rock conditions. If a new project has similar geological conditions, the TBM can be reused with minimal adjustments.

Different tunnel designs may require modifications, such as changing the cutter head or adding new components, which can be costly but feasible, In major tunneling projects like subways or water tunnels, TBMs are often refurbished and reused to reduce costs.
