Our American-made, heat-treated line of cast iron is now rust-resistant! Here's how we recommend caring for your heat-treated and seasoned cast iron cookware.

1. Start with a dirty pan.
2. Wash in the sink, or head straight to the dishwasher for stick situations.
3. Use soap if you like, and a scraper if necessary.
4. Dry your skillet.
5. Apply the oil of your choice; seasoning works best with a warm pan.
6. Lodge Heat-Treated Cast Iron is rust resistant and worry free!

What's the cleaning procedure when you buy it for the first time?

Why is there a black residue on the kitchen roll that I use to season my pan after heating?

I washed the pan with water, a tiny amount of soap, dried thoroughly, heated the skillet and finally rubbed a small amount of avocado oil into the warm skillet. The kitchen roll was black after wiping. Was my pan dirty?

To everyone going 'what are they doing you can't clean Cast Iron with soap/dishwasher!' (First of all light dish soap scrubbing is fine)

This isn't their classic cast Iron line, it's a new 'heat-treated' cast iron, which is built to be more rust-resistant and apparently can be stuck in a dishwasher.

I did the bake after scrubbing a pan that had a rust spot. My fault. After the bake it is soaking up oil like crazy. Please advise.

I just got new Lodge Cast Iron Pans...should I buy the oil treatment kit on the website or just cook a bunch of chopped bacon in the pan?

Oil of your choice ???
Soap ???
Would highly suggest whoever is making these videos for Lodge reconsider these recommendations
Oil - only certain oils should be used to prevent becoming rancid
Soap - Soap breaks down the seasoning and requires the pan to be prepped and reseasoned… all over again.
Martha Stewart has some great videos.
The key is to remember at what stage is your cast iron. Many are starting with new pans, others new factory seasoned, some haven’t used theirs in a while and need to start over. Definitely now a day few are using every day like Grandma and the pioneers.
Seasoned = No Soap unless reseasoning

I clean like that but when I want to use it again like in 2 or 3 weeks it has a rancid odor because the oil, am I doing something wrong?

If you don't have time to do all that (especially because you have to warm it before oiling it) what do you do?

Based on their care instructions They want you to buy more. Pretty much marketing 101

Hot water and a dishbrush right after cooking. It'll dry itself off.

well that was interesting, shouldn't you season PREseasoned cast iron a few times to be sure its okay...ur the only ones who didn't say how to to make the cast iron stick free...now thats confusing cuz I like Lodge Cast Iron 😵

Nope. Never Soap. Go watch Cowboy Kent Rollin's Chef Videos... Taboo. Skip the Soap people... Ruins the 'Seasoned' State of the Iron. There are other methods...

This is stupid. Just scrub it with chain mail, wipe it out with a damp cloth, reheat it, re oil it, let it cool, and put it away for the next use.
Surprised a manufacturer would encourage people to destroy their product in a dishwasher.
