What I ❤ most about this song is that the sense of futility and feeling of being lost in the lyrics are contradicted by the mood of the melody, which keeps on going and building up to the chorus. Almost like saying the words we express of sadness aren’t as powerful as our will to continue going.

This is how i see this song:
"Agnes just stop and think a minute

This is the singer talking to Agnes just as he was about to commit suicide. Trying to convince him not too.
"Can't you see what was different then?
You were just popping Percocet
Maybe just four a week at best
Maybe a smoke to clear the head"
This is the singer explaing what Agnes was like younger, he obviously wasn't in as bad of shape as he was currently.
"Your head is so numb
That nervous breath you try to hide

Then explaining how Agnes State is now. Clearly depressed and trying to hide it, while failing.

The fact the singer obviously cares deeply about agnes is what these lines show.

Agnes being drunk and sad desides to shoot himself despite the singer's words.

The singer remembering how Agnes use to be, understands how life affected and changed him.

The singer caring for, and missing Agnes even after he's passed, feel's *lost* after what happened but does not understand why or how much Agnes ment to him.
