OK, so bird with arms. Technically this is already a thing. There's a south American species that starts off life with arms and hands instead of wings. They later develop into wings, but are very grabby for the first part of their life, and the remnants of the hand bits are seen even in adults. They're called Hoatzin and are native to the amazon

This actually feels like a really good activity for my classroom! We just started school in person and I've been wanting to do some fun activities which doesn't break social-distancing norms and is done online AND offline (Yay blended learning?)

How do I learn to enjoy books again? As a 22 y/o guy, I find I can't get into books; there's this buzz in my brain that prevents me from sitting still and losing myself like I did as a kid. I have this itch to check my phone, or I find myself unable to fall into that suspension of disbelief so necessary for enjoying fiction without being unnecessarily critical of unimportant details.

I will say, I've been reading fanfic lately. And I think that's helped me a lot. I find it's easier to lose myself when I already know and love the characters. But I still want to read original fiction, and I find I still can't.

Maybe it's like exercising. Maybe I shouldn't expect myself to be able to pick up a book and read it cover to back like I used to. Maybe I need to just get into the habit of picking up a book and making an effort to read some of it, ANY of it, every day.

Okay. That's my goal for this academic semester. Learn to read books again, even if it means reading one page a day. I would just delete this comment since I answered my own question, but a. it's nice to have it somewhere permanent and b. maybe this can help someone else.
