No, but it depends on your saltwater aquarium, reef only doesn't need sump but when you get a fish you need change water and use hof and here we go.

Yes, it absolutely is. An AIO STINKS. I have had one for 2 years and I will never have another one. A sump allows a much greater ability to control parameters as it gives you more volume and provides a very nice oxygen exchange. A canister filter? They are jokes. Hardly help on freshwater.

Why do people need all those reactors, it just sounds like marketing crap. I have been running a nano mixed reef with a protein skimmer and canister filter and thats it. There is no auto dosing no crazy tech.. I dont blame the hobby I blame the poor saps that get suckered into buy all this "equipment". The only expensive thing I have is an AI Hydra its aöright but I think tanks do much better with t5's. No unnecessary fussy crap to keep tweaking

Not if you do what I did and it’s way better than any of this. In wall all in one petco tank, no sump, no nonsense and no hang on crap either 🤷‍♂️
