This is supposed to be for beginners. I didn't understand what an overflow is or how a sump works

AIO's are the future of bringing lots of new folks to the hobby.

Having done much bigger FW tanks in the past, I sort of bought my current SW tank (Fluval Evo 13.5 gallon AIO) on a whim. Fortunately it got me back into fishkeeping, which was always my hobby in the past. I understand the faults of a nano AIO, but it wasn't overwhelming in getting started, which was important for someone like me who is new to SW. I can definitely imagine myself upgrading in the next 2 years to something bigger, but glad I started with a nano-tank, which is allowing me to really get my bearings and understand the hobby.

Ive been searching youtube for a few days now for info on saltwater aquariums and this i by far the easiest to digest and listen too and answers the real questions i have about reefing. Awesome guys. Thank you.

5 gallons for me lol. Anything bigger, and I found that reefing becomes just a chore, not an escape. I've set one up successfully before, but never really understood how. All I knew was that the tank went through phases until stabilizing. BRS is actually helping me figure out how it worked.

If you are looking for a small desktop aquarium or something around 20 gallons, I would say AIO for sure. If you are doing fish only then AIO is great as well. I still like a sump for a reef tank as it affords you some flexibility, lots of room for equipment and also larger area for bacteria in case something goes awry. Sumps scare some people especially when they first get started, but it's easy to so and a couple of little tricks will make them basically fail proof.

You said " will allow you to use higher performance gear and different types of filters that dont work as well as hang on versions." i think you meant the opposite. still love all the content.

Hi! I am new to saltwater aquariums. I have started a 30 gal. Saltwater tank at my salon 😊 I guess I didn't realize before I got started, or I took advice from the wrong people about how to get started. Now that I know more I am even more excited to do this 🥰 all of your videos have been EXTREMELY helpful, more so than most I have found on YouTube for being new at this.
I have a tank built into my front desk counter which looks pretty awesome but I'm now realizing there's not alot of room above the tank for all the equipment needed. What would be the best option for a pump, filter, skimmer whatever is needed for hanging off the back of the tank with limited room above the tank 🤔 I really appreciate any advice 😊

If i go with an all in one tank would i have to buy better equipment. Like a better skimmer and better lights or are the ones that come with the all in one good equipment

I'v been researching what tank I want to buy now for about a month, it seems the main gripe with the AIO is they do not have much of(or any) Top off reservoir also it seems like it would be more of a pain to expand to a controller system with dosing, without making it ugly, i aso worry about the bioload from such small protein skimmers on the larger AIO's..but im new to this, if anyone has some input thatd be great.

What gets me is the nuvo fusion had some sense to cover the open back area but then the skimmer is still hanging out! so then you would have to upgrade to get a smaller skimmer!!! Why didnt they just put a shorter one in there. I am starting with a barebone 10 gallon in my lil kitchen cut out corner area, just to see how things go then I will up grade. My plan is to paint the back black but I dont want things hanging over the top like an HOB would. What is the solution? I want a clip on light so light fixture wouldnt hide it! I thought about a submersible filter that has foam with an open middle for carbon and I would use chemi blue elite I think its called ( I am a newbie) and purigen in the foam middle. maybe that would blend in with the black background. i do have a 2 inch area where it wont meet the wall because of the corner is filled in and a sort of display area is there(hard to describe) but I have 2 inches. Is there something like a HOB refugium that I could add that would be level with top of tank and not stick up an hid behind the black wall? Let me know and I will check it out on your website. Is it okay to start with live sand and biospira and chlorine remover of corse, salt and add fish immediately? I Know you did that on a previous video and then said keep lights off for a month. Sorry so many questions. I have watched all your videos and so much helpful info!

I know this is old but as a more budget get your feet wet aquarium. I personally prefer the 32 gallon biocube AIO. Simple, fast more to the point.

I want to start a salt water aquarium and was wondering if a sump under the tank in the cabinetry would require drilling in the 55 gal. glass tank. Is there a way to attach the sump, filter, heater, etc. behind it like the AIO tank? I would prefer doing the plumbing under the tank, but I'm reluctant drilling through glass.

I think you meant AIO instead of "AOI"
