We headed North before the big freeze set in. Water temps were frigid, conditions were miserable, but the fishing was fantastic! We had 8 days to fish and only 2 of them were even calm enough to film. Despite the weather the trip was epic!

No lecturing in this video, just an awesome time sticking Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Pike on a handful of Northern Michigan's best fisheries!

For any smallmouth fisherman if you have never been to door county Wisconsin add it to your bucket list, especially the sister bay area. Amazing fishery, I have caught too many 5+ smallies to count and my pb came from there, 7.2 pounds! Amazing

When I was stationed up there in the Navy, we went to Sturgeon Bay, it was so much fun catching small mouths. I have never caught so many 4 lb bass in my life. Also, I just picked up the new Shimano Exsence spinning reel, that is a sweet reel. Tim, would love it for his finesse fishing since he is into nice equipment. It is better than my Stella, no kidding. That reel is sick!!

Hi Alan..when you mentioned that you like throwing jigs on moderate action rods, jut found myself throwing my light jigs on my medium crankbait rod after receiving my shallow spool for my 51e chornarch with 8lb power pro on. tiny 2-3` swmibaits on 1/32-1/16 jigheads made my winter fishing so effective, this slow jigging that i lift the lure with the rod itself and not only relying on the tip, makes the whole thing amazing...it just works so well, these jigeheads alredy have thin and very sharp hooks so no need for hard hookset and i dont looe fish at all once hooked! i never really liked those hyper extra fast rod, just not for me...my conclusion is that for many techniques a parablic action rod can work well. if a tip movement is necesary, then choose a heavier rod with a lure size which would not bend the tip... full graphite blanks with moderate actions are the way forward for me!
