Joining Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous can help you better understand your addiction and find healthy ways to cope with it. The 12 steps can help individuals dealing with all types of substance abuse.

The 12-step program is a set of guidelines for recovery from addiction. The steps were first formulated by the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson and Bob Smith, and have since been adapted for many other forms of addiction recovery, including Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, and Marijuana Anonymous.

The 12-step program is essential because it provides a roadmap for recovery. It helps addicts take responsibility for their addiction and to make positive changes in their lives. It also offers support and accountability, which are essential for long-term sobriety.

So I have a question. My bf is in a 10 month program. He's been there 4 months? Appears to be a really good program. He was all hearts and flowers for two months until he started going into the forgiveness letter stage. I dont think they are using the traditional 12 steps. He's in some program sponsored by a local bible college. But the program has elements of the steps. He's been an addict for his entire adult life. He is 49. I'm sure he has alot of letters to write. But he's backed way way off. Is the process of seeking forgiveness and making amends overwhelming for the addict? He says he has to focus completely on that and can't write me for while. His words were, " this has to happen." Is this legit or am I probably about to get dumped? No more I live yours. No more " I can't wait to see you" no emotion at all and I waited a month for his last letter. I really don't know if I should even write him anymore.
