Black-eyed peas have been used in India for centuries. They're rich in protein, dietary fiber, and B-complex vitamins. The beans are gluten free and contain iron and potassium. When freshly prepared, this recipe can be offered as nivedhyam.

Make this sattvic recipe in an electric cooker or hotpot. This is a large recipe with about 15 servings. Make this hearty soup for gatherings and freeze the leftovers. It is not sattvic to eat leftover food.

The current recipe has bulgar wheat. Skip this if you want a gluten free recipe. The stew is perfectly balanced for winter or summer detox with ginger, black pepper, cumin and coriander powder. Tamarind enhances, balances and provides the acidic base for the recipe.
