Did you read about the star they found that's older than the "known" age of the observable universe? The star is named HD 140283

You said the companion star B is ejected from force of the supernova A. I am not so sure that is correct, I think it's also due to the mass of the star A gone supernova is reduced (*) so the gravitation force is reduced and then conservation of momentum then applies and the star B goes off at a tangent as the escape velocity is lowered of the star A B pair. As the smaller star is B moving faster around the common center of gravity of A B, you'd expect the smaller star B to eject at velocity, and the supernova A eject at lower speed in the opposite direction. Net result is fast moving star B.

(*) What causes the ejection is the time when the mass of the exploding star A moves from inside the orbit of B to outside of the orbit of B and so stops pulling to the star B as strong so a stable orbit is then broken.

I wonder what causes their super nova to be so asymmetrical that it propels the star like that. Perhaps a rather large hot Jupiter producing a tidal effect? It would likely only take a percent or two to get a star moving that fast.

Oh boy, things just get weirder and weirder.
I'm really surprised that a supernova could kick another star, and even so much that it could leave the galaxy.
And then these guys who give a thrust to themselves... or what's left of them... didn't really expect that would happen either.
