Summer's here and it's getting hotter! That can make things unpleasant while riding your motorcycle. But don't let that be a reason to stop riding entirely. Shumi has 5 tips that will help you stay cool during your ride. These include being okay with sweating & hydrating yourself, using base layers, deciding when to ride in the day, understanding how heat affects your health, and finally, using appropriate riding gear. So arm yourself to beat the heat and go ride.

Lovely tips as always.... Thank you Shumi! One more thing I do, when I have to ride through hot summer days (say 48/49C), I wet a piece of synthetic cloth (or 3 necktubes around) and use it around the neck, evaporative cooling in the neck area is something which is really helpful and increases once tolerence levels for heat (it is medically proven as well). Of course if there is cool water, I do pour it on the jacket/base layer as well (while making sure I'm not wasting too much). Havent had much luck getting cooling vests.

This video is published just at the most perfect time ever. I'm planning a 4k kms ride from Kolkata to uttarakhand and this is simply the most needed piece of information for those who are going to hit the roads. Lots of ❤️ to PD

One thing that I like to do while on a tour is take a shower at the end of the day instead of the morning.

As soon as the ride ends in the evening and I check into a hotel, I take a cold shower. It cools down the body, refreshes you and you don't go to bed with all the dirt and grime that you've accumulated during the day.

This helps me skip a bath in the morning. I would simply wash my face/neck/arms and get going, so I can ride longer distances by saving the morning shower time.

i did 1000+ km ride on my himalayan in one day, Vadodara to Noida in peak 46+ degrees temperature across Rajasthan, Ofcourse ive followed the Shumi's 5 pro tips, but over that i did these steps
1- Start Early, before sun kicks in hard... lets say 11pm, by that time cover at least cover 40% of the distance, (i love to start at 3am - 4am)
2- try to stop only at fuel stations, fuel your bike and yourself (keep cookies, dryfruits with you) refill your hydration pack there, and also use washrooms there, your luggage and bikes are safe there. and yes Remove your Jacket, so you get a good 10 min ventilation break.
3- keep changing your butt position and your body posture every 10-15 min, this will allow air to flow to all the parts, and also gets better blood flow in your butt, wrists.
4- Poloroid sun glasses keeps your eyes safe from UV rays of sun, and also less stress to eyes.
5- Sing songs and groove.

Been using Cramster Breezer since 10 yrs now, very effective in summers. Also, have putting water on my head before starting. Good tips. Thanks Shumi!

One thing that has worked well is that whenever I stop, i wet the bandana with cold water (even normal water would do) and wrap it around the neck ..as you ride and when the water evaporates it gives a nice cooling effect for sometime ...try out !!

I had a couple of times heat stroke For me after loosing about 4 kg of water I start feeling a bit dizzy, and I know I have to top up with to be in the safe zone...
Wanted to say that if you ride fast you get cold fast, but that's probably the baddest advice one can give 😇.
Better have 2 sets of gear, one for the cold start and finish and one for the blistering heat of the day (at least the jacket).

Kolkata heat and humidity made me totally comfortable riding in heat 😂 However this is what i do : If your ride is in X hours, take a bath and get ready by X-2 hours. With the remaining 2 hours, drink water and keep peeing! I usually target 3 litres of water. And then carry two thermos flask (1 with ors and the other plain water) I prefer carrying flask over hydration pack mainly because it's necessary to stop and take hourly breaks (atleast for me) so i am not worn out.

Great work. Great suggestions. You could also include some tips on what care needs to be taken for the vehicle as well. Can it be ridden/driven in the same way as its been done in the winters/rains?
