It’s no surprise Enki the Dark Priest possesses an Enlightened Soul, and he also has the least different New God form as he only gains a helmet and keeps the same clothes. This may seem boring, but if you’ve played Bloodborne, then you will understand the symbolism as the helmet Enki gains is similar to the Mensis Cage that Micolash and other members of the school of Mesis wear. Its purpose is to restrain the will of the wearer to allow them to see the profane world for what it is and also as an antenna so that they may commune with the Eldritch Great Ones who are akin to the Old Gods of Fear & Hunger, which Enki and other Dark Priests channel for magical powers. Having a soul of enlightenment causes the possessor to relentlessly seek knowledge and secrets which are hidden from the world. New Gods possessing these souls fittingly reside in the Grand Library which houses countless books containing untold histories and truths. This is where Valteil the current Enlightened New God resides as well whose personal mission was to create true life, although he never achieved his goal. When we find Enki’s New God form in the void, it beckons that Enki needs to kill his ego and move on to truly find the knowledge he seeks. It also talks of how knowledge suffocates those who cannot adjust to it and it had to leave the world behind after what it learned during its enlightenment and ascension. Surprisingly it talks of how ignorance is bliss and knowledge only enhances pain.
