Don't ever doubt Mr. Sulu's ability to fly a spacecraft.

"Star Trek Beyond," the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. While I know this was meant to be a "You're questioning my skills?" moment, I always crack up thinking it as "I'm winging it, sir, this thing is ancient and hasn't flown for decades! Now's not the time to ask for assurance!"

This scene is a callback to "The Undiscovered Country" when the communication officer in the Excelsior says "Should we report this, sir?" And Sulu says "Are you kidding me?"

His question was like simply implying "you were born in the era of mp3's and the like, are you sure you know how to operate a cassette player to play a cassette tape?" 😅

Why do I get the feeling that he secretly means "Are you out of your mine!? What makes you think this relic could even start it's engine?"

love how shortly after this scene when he barely gets the ship to fly in time before crashing he has this look on his face like...

"Oh shit... I can't believe that actually worked... I was THIS close to killing us all"

Good stuff...

When you're both secure and comfortable in your friendship 😌 enough to say, "fuck you, asshole" ✨to his face, yet must observe proper protocol.

This is the same man who would later (in another timeline, sigh) go on to fly a rotary-winged aircraft that hadn't seen service for centuries even before his birth during a trip to Earth's past.

This has to be my favourite out of the 3 reboots, because it actually feels like Star Trek. No offense to Abrams' films, they were great. But they just felt more like Star Wars than Star Trek. Not only that, but it's also my favourite Star Trek movie period (sorry O.S. fans, Wrath of Khan is good, but it just doesn't hold up well nowadays).

And yet the future star ships don't have four point harnesses?
