Dr. Heike Fuller, General Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany to Atlanta, spoke at the wreath-laying ceremony at the Fort Benning Cemetery commemorating German Memorial Day, also known as Volkstrauertag.
Volkstrauertag - people's day of mourning - is observed the second Sunday before Advent and marks the German commemoration of members of the armed forces of all nations and civilians who died in armed conflicts. Forty-four German soldiers from World War II are buried at the cemetery.
