That's right, we are talking about all those nail colors that are ugly but somehow pretty - the chartreuses, the lumpy textured polishes, the sheers.. and I've got 15 to share with ya! I either love or hate every polish on this list.

For the folks who WANT to like a jelly or crelly polish, but don't like the transparency of it, try 1-2 layers of a similar-colored opaque polish underneath. It doesn't generally need to be exact, "kind of close" will probably be fine once it's done and dried. It'll blend in with the jelly color and make it look like one solid thing. So think: clear base coat -> base color -> jelly/crelly -> clear topcoat (if desired).
I've had what I think is my best success (your tastes may differ of course) if I go one step smaller on the sparkle size for my undercoat:
- Cremes under crellies, shimmers, matte chunky glitters, or full jellies with no glitter/sparkly bits
- Shimmers under glitters, iridescents, or flakies
- Glitters under big chunky metallic glitters

And this method often works for adding extra dimension to sheer and glittery toppers, too. Makes it look like one coherent fancy polish with interesting depths to it, instead of visible distinct layers.

Maze Craze reminds me of those open crates full of random tumbled semi-precious gemstones you get in gift shops. Idk but there's something about it that really hits a nostalgia note for me!

I was shocked when you included Preserved in Amber on this list. How could anyone think it is ugly? It’s so gorgeous! 🧡
Olive to Roar, on the other hand, I was not surprised at all 😂 for me that one is solidly in the ugly category, but I still want to own it!

It's interesting how texture absolutely transforms a color, and that the reception is really love-hate! A super boring color can become really cool and unique and a pleasant shade can turn very alarming, and what qualifies as any of those aspects is utterly tied to an individual's tastes.

Frog nail art idea for "olive to roar" make the green the base, then apply a pink stripe (maybe a French tip) horizontally across four nails then on the fifth one make the line curl around a small black fly

I really like a lot of these! Haha. The “Olive to roar” polish is a stunningly funky color…but yeah the random texture for me would cause me to only use it for accent nails. I wish it was named “alligator hide” or something to represent the bumps!

15:54 maze craze is a LOT. reminds me of kaleidoscopes. or like a confetti party condensed into one nail. idk but it's pretty cool. maybe not an everyday thing you could get away with but pretty fun! trying to picture a full set of those lol.

There is a jelly version of the ORLY baby pupe one that its almost cult favorite😂

All of these are gorgeous, olive green-brown color on nails is something insanely underrated. My favorites definitely would have to be Orly Elysian Fields and Cirque Colors Groove Thing :)

I love Groove Thing and bought it after you swatched that collection. I put Groove Thing on top of other greens, multi-color greens like Artemis by Starrily gold/oranges, and black, and I get such different results. I thought Wait For Me reminded me of a naturally occuring white quartz with metallic flakes in it that makes it rather interesting, and totally fine for a wedding.

I’ve recently realized my ideal nail polish aesthetic is very in line with what you label ugly-pretty, so I’m beyond excited for this update :)
