My grandpa was on a slow decline with dementia for 10 years. I remember the first early sign. He had driven out to run an errand and ended up driving 2 hours in the wrong direction trying to find home. He always was the compass of the family and never needed a map so when we finally got him back home he was distraught.

I remember him saying “I don’t know what’s wrong with me… I never get lost. My mind just isn’t the same…” and he went into his room and laid down for the rest of the day and didn’t even come out for dinner. It was so sad.

If possible you can also ask them if the jar of peanut butter smells off to them, surprisingly it can be an indicator of dementia (seriously we don’t know why but people with dementia cannot smell peanut butter for some reason)

Brings back many memories of my mom. The trigger for us was when she somehow drove 5 hours away, and we had to go and get her. Diagnosis a few weeks later. Power of attorney and medical releases done soon after.

If anyone out there smokes, please stop, as she lost her mind and sight, making everything worse due to vascular collapse.

Yep! Sundowning but not too many mood swings. Losing stuff, hyper organizing but screwing it up, can't focus enough to actually pay bills, don't remember there are current/young family members but remembers mom, sis, dad and talked to one or the other just a minute ago. Can't find the bathroom in her bedroom. Sometimes will start a dozen sentences but unable to finish any of them. Doesn't know that she is home. Rarely remembers me or who I am but still usually remembers my name. Still remembers a couple of deep hurts from 50 years ago and still mad at that person! Wow! GOD help all if us going thru this mess. Feeling I'll just see her off to Heaven and it will b my turn to be out if my mind! Hard times! Thanks for helping!❤

Every time I see this channel, I break down in tears. I love my grandparents and my mama, and I'm terrified of this happening to any of them. I feel like I wouldn't be strong enough to keep composed.

Doesn't help to just think of the good times because nostalgia only hurts more, making me want whatever I had that is missing now, reminding me I'll never have it again.

My grandma has had early dementia for a few years now. Now that it’s becoming more severe, she’s moving in with my parents and I. She’s very excited about it and keeps asking if we have cats and enthusing about how she loves cats. (We have four and I show her pictures of them often.) I’m going to watch this channel so I know how to properly interact with her as her dementia worsens. Unfortunately, it’ll be even more difficult due to our language barrier. (She barely knows English and I barely know German.)

My mom's brother passed due to dementia about 12 years ago. I don't remember much of the early stages because it started probably before I was born, but watching him go through the later stages was very sad and scary

I'm very grateful one sign is difficulty with complex tasks.
My mother has brain cancer and the cancer+treatments took her down several pegs. Brain fog, woozy and weak spells, migraines, and a whole sea of other issues that complicate everything else.
But she's still kicking ass with bills and driving.
She's amazing. And I cherish every moment I get with her, because her mom had dementia and it might be hereditary.

My dad sadly had early dementia. It was very hard on me as it consumed him when I was in middle school. This would happen so much while we still had him live with us. We eventually had to put him in memory care, we couldn't care for him ourselves and he would talk out anger outbursts on me

I’m taking my dad to get a neurological assessment at a top hospital next week. He’s had symptoms for years, but he convinced us all that his doctor thought it was normal ADHD. His doctor called recently to urge us to take him to get an assessment done. It’s rough, but we’re going to face it.

We used to have a client that would get lost on the way to the salon a few times, we had to call her daughter and share our concerns with her, we felt so bad but we didn't want her to get hurt or anything, we still see her but now she gets driven by her daughter.

My grandma forgot where she parked her car so she waited next to it for me to come pick it up

We got a diagnosis after my grandma called my mom saying she hit something with her car, but didn’t know what. We drove to where she pulled over, she had a big dent but couldn’t find anything she hit, even called into the police to let them know. From there it got worse & she had to come live with us. Her mom had it too 😕

I've been trying not to alarm my mom but these are very worryin signs that a person in my house has dementia. And he's always been kind of a toxic person so this will be hard. Im super scared.

im just wondering, my grandmas been getting uncharacteristically "meaner" over the past few years (unashamedly judges how people look/act, got upset when i started dying my hair, calls her daughter in law a wh⭕️re, etc) could this be an early sign of dementia? it doesnt run in our family but idk if thatd stop her from getting it
