If I may suggest a helping solution, Its easy to learn to 'feel' a bar as you say. I think it's almost like a mental dance to feel the groups of four... I tend to feel groups of 4 bars (it's a mental swaying dance) which becomes a phrase.... Counting phrases is easier as the numbers are smaller. i.e. 24 bars is only 6 phrases of 4. So counting to six is easier than trying to recite multi syllable numbers whilst playing.

Really helpful, the problem I find is I get into the music or concentrate on a fill and then forget what bar i’m up to 😂

I need Help: i had have an accident with my Lung. I can't count loud, cause O2 is missing. Training is complicated. I have a Metronom about my Drumbrain. Are there another Possibilities?🙏

While practicing without metronome I found I always get out of sync after at least 2 bars of rest, even counting the bars loud, either 1-2 beats too fast or too slow.
How can I overcome this?

Simple, straightforward advice - and yeah, I agree: 4-2-3-4 etc is confusing.
