The tamper resistant ones are only great if you don't have trouble with them. Some plugs don't go into them easily.

Just a tip when you put the wires on you should put the wires on clock wise so that when you tighten the screw you pull the wire in instead of going Out

Are those slots not for poking the wires in and the screw lock them in? The loop is unnecessary in this situation

There's a little tab to push in on that old socket, that way you don't have to cut anything.

I hate those little plug covers. I lose them all the time. This is great. We are switching all our outlets.

You did the loops the wrong way. The loops are supposed to be looped in the same direction that you are tightening the screw.
