Can the iPhone 15 Pro Max BEAT the Galaxy S23 Ultra in GPU performance!? | 3DMark Exteme Test

In this video I will be doing an in-depth honest benchmark analysis with both the Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. I have noticed smoother performance with IOS 17.02; however, is this enough to catch up to the raw GPU performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC? All four tests were conducted in 25c Ambient temperature.

Introduction and Test Overview (0:00)
Geekbench 6 Results (0:50)
3DMark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test RD1 (2:05)
3DMark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test RD2 (3:05)
3DMark Solar Bay Stress Test Results (4:22)
Conclusion (5:01)

To see more of the Genshin Impact Test, check out my FPS test between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra:
PS: Thermals were better on the iPhone compared to S23 Ultra by 2 degrees celecius

I don't know why most people here are not getting the fact that the 8 gen 3 (launched at the end of 2023 similar to A17 launch date) is the actual competor to the A17, in which the 8 gen 3 absolutely destroys it in 3d mark/ antutu/ geekbench multicore scores (apple is still having better single core cpu scores tho)

And this video proves how even a year old chipset (8 gen 2) can still keep up very well with the latest Apple chip

I don’t understand why other people are having such issues. I’m using the 15 pro max and experiencing no over heating

This proves that the Snapdragon Gen 3 will wipe the floor with the A17 Pro. The fact that a year older chip can match the newest, most powerful iPhone chip AND throttle less speaks volumes. Good job Qualcomm and goodbye Apple.

The A 17 is a beast of a processor in CPU but also power hungry. Maybe that is why the stability is not good. It consumes way more power than my 14 pro max, which is crazy for being 3nm.

I just came from yesterday's Fontaine head2head video. I was surprised at these results. The Geekbench part, not so much. The 3D Mark though was impressive. You've got a last gen chip in the Galaxy hanging with Apple's newest and best. Good job Qualcomm.

For my Fahrenheit peeps: the easiest way (no multiplying by fractions like with the official formula) to convert Celsius to something you can use is to take the C° temp and multiply it by 2. Then subtract 10% from the total (just move the decimal left one spot - e.g. 34 would be 3.4, 112 would be 11.2) and add 32 to that. This test was conducted at an ambient temperature of 25°C. That comes out to 77°F.

25x2 = 50
50-5 = 45
45+32 = 77

TLDR: A17p is faster but needs better efficiency.

Geekerwan has an in depth look at thermals and architecture (all respect to dame tech) and the iphone has most of its heat centered on the soc, no vapor chamber dispersing heat along the body like the S23U.

I love how you completely ignored the most important thing in the graphics stress test, which is the STABILITY percentage!
Just to make iPhone look better

That throttling after the first minute is crazy on the iPhone, I don't think I've seen shorter peak performance ever on any phone. It only iPhones had any cooling...
BTW on the same topic S23U is on a very respectable 42degress after the stress test, do you know what the iPhone was? Also is the S23 fully unleashed GOS off and +2degrees thermal limit?

And you're not even talking about the stability score which is more important 🤦👎

It's not that a17 "pro" gpu is slower than s8g2. It's about A17 pro gpu isn't what iphone "pro" users hoped for. They expected apple's gpu to be much faster and efficient than s8g2 which is usually the case before s8g2 came but after people started uploading videos of testing both gpu people found out Apple was only trying to catch up to s8g2 gpu not surpass it which is what usually happened in the past years lol. If I'm not mistaken s8g2 officially announced in 2022 December and apple's new gpu isn't as good as a gpu that can be found in even base galaxy s23 phone lol. Not to mention some cheap Chinese phones 😂

Bad news for 15 Pro Max, hope they are able to fix this. My Oneplus 10T achieves a stability of 94% (Wild Life Extreme Stress Test) being top score 2783 and lowest one 2619 with performance mode enabled, frame rate goes from 12 up to 21 and max temp was 37°C damn

if apple just added a better cooling system i would buy the 15 pro max for gaming, but i tend to game for hours at a time so thermal throttling to me is more important than scores. my eyes are on the red magic 9 or asus rog 8 for my next upgrade, maybe the s24 ultra depending on how well it can remain stable after long sessions.

It shocking how fast current phones are.
Both phones are great, currently arm cpu design lags behind, hope that when qualcomm switch to own design it will be better.

3dbenchmark should add moving average score. S23u is clearly ahead if you put the graph on top of each other. We cant just rely on the highest and lowest loop here.

@DameTech, could you please repeat this test using a fan cooler? It would be nice to see if we can sustain higher fps for longer and with less stress on the battery due to overheating

Good morning, if you get to watch such a tech video in the morning, it feels good, your knowledge increases. ❤

at solar bay how iphone wins after few rounds if s23 ultra do 4633 against 4551 for iphone?? including the stability 63% it not good enough.. guys stuttering is worst part of gameplay... travel from 60 to 22 makes the experience worst than play on 30fps locked...

iPhone 15 has Flight Mode on, but Samsung has its Radio on. So the performance output may be slightly biased in favor of the iPhone.

well the question is tricky, as this GPU is weaker than Adreno, it has shown that on RT tests it's actually better... but not exactly, power drawing is 30% higher, so if you dive deeper in to Gen2 with custom room let's say on Red Magic 8s and if you push power drawing to iPhone level then again you have higher GPU performance on Gen2 that A17, and the thing is I don't care about your reviews or comparisons, as this chip was properly tested already and it is said to be the worst in Apple history, it is power hungry monster and sustained performance is just below what you have on Android right now, and leaks are suggesting that Qualcomm stays with 4nm on Gen3 and so far from leaks you can see that GPU is just a monster, and it it draws also the same amount of power as Gen2 having that boost on compute units, then there is nothing to compare against Apple as Android gaming phones are just better for gaming, and if somehow someone decides to bring AAA games to Android then people should forget about Apple, unless Apple will finally invest in some heat dispensing components, iPhone 15 pro max is also the warmest iPhone of you measure it properly.
