Chaplains finding out that there are, in fact chapters that should not exist is something i enjoy seeing because it shows how bad it is when a chaplain finds it insane

And the chaplain answered "See yourself as the angel of the Emperor that you should be. See yourself as splendid, as bright, as noble as you see our Primarch, for that IS how those we should protect see us. Look at yourself the same way they look at you, and tell me you are not a monster as you bleed them and see the hope in their eyes die with them".
The chaplain could'nt see his eyes, and he didn't need to. Eons of practice and he could tell, from the slight, undetectable shiver of the astartes, what his "brother" would have said to himself: "I cannot".

Dante: "The Lamentors chapter is severely understrengthed due to their selfless sacrifices and penance crusade, for that, they need not heed my call."
"And the Angels vermilion?"
Dante: "Those guys suck, they can't come here."

Some Angels Vermillion showed up anyway, and they said that the chapter had started to get even worse. They had come to the defense of Baal in an attempt to try and restore some small measure of honor to the name of the Angels Vermillion.

Props to the VA of the Chaplain you can hear the disgust and horror in his voice without sacrificing that Astartes tone, it really carries the gravity of the scene.

Dante: I didn’t say not to come. I just said that you’re not invited.

The AV pose a similar conundrum to that of the pre-heresy Night Lords: is it right or wrong to sacrifice a few to prevent the destruction of an entire world and population, if not multiple worlds? The AV call their ritual the Sorrowing because while they find it necessary they do not take it lightly: they treat the sacrifices as saviors not only of the Imperium but also of their chapter, they make the deaths painless and honor not just their deaths but their lives.

Now, what happened in this case was that normally the AV would carry out the Sorrowing on their homeworld's population, but instead did it to refugees to spare their homeworld the cycle. You could argue the refugees had suffered and this was a merciful way for them to die compared to what would otherwise have happened, but while on Chorinal the population accepts their tithe as their duty to their protectors these refugees did not. They came to Chorinal to be saved, to live and be protected; instead, their trust and hope were violated.

In response to this being found out, rather than kill Hereon and earn the chapter's wrath they instead blackmailed the chaplain that if the AV were to be censured for the Sorrowing they'd reveal the chapter's curse to the Inquisition, which is why Dante just wants to have nothing to do with them rather than have them wiped out. What's worse is the AV's current chapter master is stepping up the ritual even more, hinting that it's going past a necessity.

Granted, none of this means I agree with the AV or the Sorrowing, nor do I condemn them. Grimdark sometimes comes with a dark logic, whether you feel it is right or wrong.

I honestly liked it better when we didn't know why Dante banned the Angels Vermillion

I believe he also didn't call the Knights of Blood. They came anyway, but he didn't call.

They let themselves slip back to their days as Revenants. For that they sought redemption by dying for Baal, every last one, fighting the Tyranid hordes for the legacy of their Primarch
