The way the camera zooms in slowly on Hardy's back with the burning plane, the sunset, and silhouette of German soldiers in the background. Truly superb cinematography.

I have to admit, I cried in the theater; the importance of this scene can't be felt enough. This movie isn't just a British story; it's universal for not giving up in the face of overwhelming odds and certain defeat.

What even more heart breaking is the fact there is five more years left of war and those guys could have died in Africa or Italy or Normandy or Germany

Who agrees that Nolan should make a WW2 Trilogy of Films cause I think he certainly should!

Nearly 80 years later, it still seems miraculous that so many soldiers were saved by a civilian fleet. One of Churchill's most magnificent moments and he had many.

"I'm staying for the french" Not gonna lie, I'm french and this quote give me chills. You are the real MVP UK, thanks for the Great War support, thanks to hold on and support De Gaule during WW2, thank you for everything. Crazy that after all those wars and centuries of rivalry you were on our side for those moments and never give up. You are lika a real true brother, you are always making fun of us and you really like to mock us, but you always got our back when we need it. Big respect for all brits people.

The boys think they're failures for the evacuation but the citizens celebrate them. Never fails to bring tears to my eyes, especially since most war movies are about victories. The fact that these soldiers fought in the first place makes them heroes. That's what Christopher Nolan was saying at the end. One of the most heartwarming, beautiful scenes in cinema. Anyone who says Nolan doesn't have a heart after this is lying to themselves.

That burning Spitfire, good God. Such a beautiful and moving metaphor of the whole movie!

I think the saddest part is the final shot with Fionn starring as he closes the paper, realizing he’s going to go back into the horrors of war and he can’t do anything to resist. As poetic as Churchill’s words are it wasn’t Churchill nor anyone in parliament who were going onto those beaches to die for their country. And Fionn’s acting perfectly portrays what a young soldier must have thought knowing it was he and his brethren who were going to die, sacrifices for their homeland.

4:02. Fucking incredible moment. The incinerating plane, soldiers in the background, the sun setting, it's fucking powerful. Very devoid of words... fucking chills. 4:03 to 4:07 is some of the best acting I've ever seen. Hardy is brilliant. The literal amount of defiant emotion that reverberates across his face. What an actor. What a movie.

The Pilot is the most touching scene. Such Bravery, knowing he was most likely about to be tortured and killed he gladly sacrificed himself for his Mission and his fellow countrymen to give them a Chance at Escape...and he was content and at Peace with that

Only Christopher Nolan can give you these type of endings. The man is genius when it comes cinematography.

I remember trying to not shed a tear in the theatre during that scene where the civilian boats arrive and Kenneth Branagh saying "....Home."

This ending left me so emotional when I went and saw it in the theatre. A reviewer once described the ending of Road to Perdition as "too complex for tears" That's how I feel watching it again now. in a way it's trademark Nolan to have all the storylines converge, intercutting in a way to hit emotional apex. but here, especially, it does not feel contrived. Just real.

3:57 - 4:10 truly one of the best cinematography i have seen in a long time. This movie was great and the soundtrack, made by Hanz Zimmer, makes alot of moments have emotions.

When he manually pumps his landing gear down I relived my childhood growing up and watching Memphis Belle, that movie grew my love of aviation.

A lot of people seemed to come away from this movie disappointed because it didn't use the traditional story and character tropes you would find in most war movies. I felt somewhat the same way after seeing Dunkirk in the theater but after watching this movie a few times it's amazing how much the characters come to life through all the small details Nolan includes(their accent, different things they're wearing, small details in dialogue, visual cues.) Also, I've never seen another war movie that so accurately depicts the sensory experiences of war. Whether it's dodging enemy "small arms" fire at the start or in the grounded boat hull, the dive bombings on the dock/beach, or the soldiers going down with the sinking ships, Dunkirk gives you about as close to a real sensory experience of war as you can get without actually being in the real situations they're trying to depict. I've never seen another movie like Dunkirk, it is a truly special movie.
