Video not uploading as Youtube Shorts from PC?

Is your video not uploading as Youtube Shorts while uploading from PC? Then possibly you have not been using the correct frame width & height for the videos you are trying to upload. In order to make a YouTube Shorts your video must be less than 60 seconds and within 1080 width and 1080 height. If you exceed the dimensions it will be uploaded as a normal YouTube video.

In this video, we will quickly try to upload a video and see why it wasn't uploaded as Shorts - and later correct the dimensions and re-upload it. By the way, we have also uploaded the same video as YouTube Shorts on our channel.

It’s a shame how YouTube makes this so difficult to upload shorts from your computer

Only video to actually solve this very niche problem, no clickbait, with clear steps, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I can't tell you how thankful I am for this, brother!!!
NO OTHER tutorial or video I've seen has ever mentioned the aspect ratio requirements!! Every other video or website about this issue just gives simple instructions, as if the actual problem was not knowing where the "upload" button was... lol...
Also, in Final Cut Pro, the "Vertical" format option doesn't provide and option for a 1080 height, so I would have never thought to do a 'Custom' format, as I had never heard or seen that that was a requirement until watching your video!

Thank You!!

Another tip: It NEEDS to be exactly 59 seconds or less in length. I tried 60 seconds, but it just kept uploading as a regular video. It needs to be no longer than 59 seconds at 24fps.

This isn't true (anymore). I just uploaded a 1080 by 1920 fine. This is the specification from Google. Probably what is happening in this video is that the original output for the video encoder was not vertical. I made this mistake. The project in the video software was vertical however the encoder settings were not vertical. I changed the encoder to vertical and everything was fine at 1080 by 1920. Youtube recognized the video as a short instantly while uploading.

Problem might be that, if you uploaded your video first time with wrong settings, so if i try upload excatly same video again, youtube thinks its the same video with same settings automatically. Maybe try to change video or title little bit.

Thank you!!! You are a lifesaver. This whole time I was thinking it was because my video was over the 1-minute mark. I kept trimming, rendering, and uploading it to my YouTube channel, and every time it failed. The Premiere Pro settings even say 1080 x 1920. The problem is the render settings were at 1920 x 1080. Your video helped me figure out my mistake. Thanks again!

It's OK for the width to be 1080. It's doesn't have to be below. Dimensions of 1080 X 1920 are fine. It's the ratio 9:16 that it's looking for as well as not going over 1 minute. The problem for many people is that if it is slightly over 60 seconds. Even if it says 1 min, it's better to make the video 59 seconds to be sure it's going to be accepted.

Thanks for this video!
The main reason I've found that YouTube doesn't upload your video as a Shorts is because the duration is over 59 seconds. In your video editor, the video cannot be more than 59 seconds. It must be 58 seconds and 29 frames (or 59 frames if you are editing in 60 fps timecode).

The resolution can be as high as you want, 4K and beyond is accepted as long as it is no wider than a 1:1 square aspect ratio.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. This was driving me insane because another tutorial I watched gave me different frame width and height.

This is so helpful tysmmmm

BTW for everyone that still can’t upload shorts: it has to be under one minute (60secs)

Another thing I'd recommend is do NOT cancel immediately just because it doesn't IMMEDIATELY recognizes it as a short. Sometimes it immediately does, sometimes only after processing it. The system is... weird.

Thanks, it worked - I tried other resolutions like 800x600, 720x720, 720x576, 640x480 (thinking if it is only under 1000 it would work, it wouldnt), lastly I tried your 608x1080 and it worked immediately.
