The yo-yo technique sounds a awful lot like the cycle of abuse which sadly I have experienced. You love bomb and then get mean and cold, then love bomb etc… it’s the main way abusers get victims to stay cause “they aren’t mean all the time” it’s awful. I hope all the people involved got the help they needed and grew from that.

The witty banter is my fav parts of these videos actually. I like to get to know the person I’m watching not just watch the content that’s mainly displayed. Ads flavor to the video.

The "Yo-yo Technique" sounds like a toned down version of the Narcissistic Ab*se cycle and is indeed a manipulation tactic.

People will (intentionally or unintentionally) start by love-bombing the person they're interested in by showering them with affection, loving words, and/or gifts, but then move on to devaluing the person (for example, ignoring or breaching a boundary their partner has set or just gaslighting them). After this, the narcissist will move onto the "discard" phase, where the relationship may end or the person may act as though they want nothing to do with their partner. The final stage is sometimes called "hoovering, " where the person will reach out to their partner and give an insincere apology, reach out on important dates, make grandiose promises, etc. in an effort to manipulate their partner into getting back with them or trusting them again. Then, the cycle starts again with love-bombing.

A good example of this is that of Bartise on Season 2 of Love is Blind with his romantic interest Nancy.

MatPat talking about showmance reminded me of a discussion online where I was arguing that even if you don't have feelings for your acting partner, the fact that you participate in intimate scenes might be uncomfortable specially if you are married and the other person was like "Oh that does not happen that often, people can differentiate acting from real life". I wanted to grab them by the shoulders and shake them saying "Do you have any idea how dumb our brains are??? We can convince it of anything!!!"
