Do you know what i find is really odd about studying art? They don't teach you stuff like this they just expect you to figure it out by yourself ... at least thats my experience 😅 i wish you could go through my drawings and show me how to improve cause to be honest i gave up a while ago

Simplifying the edges can be interpreted as making them more rigid, and if that alters the shape of the object some, that would make sense. The asymmetry of the shadow makes in more natural

I like the students work. I agree with having the major shapes come through a bit more, but don’t lose that rigid-shadow style. Apply it somewhere else and it would work out really well

The easy way to explain it that just looks like a can shape pear than fruit shape pear.

I watched it like 8 times. I gotta say, you're not wrong but the student wasn't wrong either. But I'm just going to say the requirements aren't clear. I see everything you asked for, just not simplified enough or what you wanted. On a scale from 1 to 10, the pear is 10, the student would be like a 2-3, and yours is like a 0.5. Then again, I'm just a random person who didn't study art, which could be where this student is starting from.

So no, it depends on the context of everything.

No, the shapes are okay. It is the values that are off. Whoever drew that fell for the tricky perception correcting that our brain automatically does.
