Pope Francis appoints first woman manager in Vatican
Pope Francis has appointed Dr. Francesca Di Giovanni as undersecretary for multilateral affairs in the Vatican Secretariat of State, making her the first-ever woman to be appointed to the Holy See’s Secretariat of State. Dr. Francesca Di Giovanni was born in Palermo in 1953. She holds a law degree and has experience of working in the secretariat for 27 years. Commenting on his new role, Dr. Francesca Giovanni said that she would try to do her best to live up to the Holy Father’s trust. She said “The Holy Father has made an unprecedented decision, certainly, which, beyond myself personally, represents an indication of attention towards women.”
Cardinal Robert Sarah publishes new book
"From the Depths of Our Hearts", a book written by Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine worship with a contribution from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was published in French on January 15. An English edition of the same will be released by Ignatius Press on February 20. In the new book, they defend priestly celibacy, an issue that was discussed at last year's Amazon synod.
