Maybe use the LED strip that you took off the bowl for that low shelf.

I think it's the perfect size little fish farm for one fishkeeper with a busy life.
It's a very nice little set up.

U can try growing house plants out your tubs to help w the ammonia

I used a tub like this to hatch & grow out eggs I purchased & hatched. I had the nitrite issue & added a bunch of frogbit (which I have growing in abundance) and haven't had any problems since. Also, I know when I was researching ricefish, I red that they will deposit eggs on the frogbit roots too, so you might want to check your frogbit. I would suspect their instincts would drive them to the natural option.

i tried the scrubby pad style egg mops last year outdoors with my medakas and had no luck, meanwhile my daisy's blue ricefish lay eggs like crazy on my live floating plants indoors, i've found that if you arent pulling mops the next best thing is to have an almost impassible thick mat of java moss, floaters, etc so the eggs and fry are impossible to find

I'd add some airlines going into those. Just a few bubbles to keep the water moving

I have an idea for discouraging the females from releasing their eggs on the reed plants. Make a plastic "collar" and put it at the base of the plant so the fish can't swim through the reeds. Might solve the problem.

What about a sprig of hornwort of anacharis or some other floating plant to absorb for nitrites/nitrates? You could also add a small piece of lava rock or a piece of filter biomedia to the tubs to help nitrite/nitrate issues. Something simple that won't collect a lot of debris.

I've been doing the same with my medaka fry, except I use Java moss in mine. And keep 1 snail in each.

Do you know how old they start to breed? I have some new gekka about 3 months old!

Ok, if they don't want to spawn on mops, how about live plants bundled in ceramic weights? That way, you can just pull the plant with eggs. Then, just put in new plants.

About how long does it take for the rice fish eggs to hatch?

Where did you get the spawning mops ?

If those green things attached to the pool noodles are scotch brite material, that stuff disintegrates over time.

Why dont you want the snails in with the fry?

Are you interested in any tricolor medakas? I breed them.
