Different types of Motors used in Electric Cars & EVs

5 Different type of Motors is used in Electric Vehicles. ( Electric Cars in India , Electric Scooters in India , Electric Bikes in India )

1.Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM),
2.Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM),
3.AC Induction Motor(ACIM),
4.Interior Permanent Magnet Motor(IPMM),
5. Permanent Magnet Switched Reluctance Motor(PMSRM).

Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) are being used in most of the lightweight 2 Wheeler & 3 Wheeler EVs like Electric Scooters and Electric Motorcycles.

For example in Electric Scooters:
Ather Energy Scooters,
Upcoming TVS Creon,
22Motors, Hero Electric,
Niu Electric Scooters,
Yamaha EC-03, etc.
For example in Electric Motorcycles:
Tork Motors,
eMotion Motors,
Menza Motors,
Chinese Evoke Motorcycles etc.

2. PMSMs

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) are also being used by many EV Manufacturers for their High-Performance Electric Motorcycle, Electric Cars, Electric Buses.

For example in Electric Cars:
Chevy Bolt EV,
Nissan Leaf EV,
Upcoming Hypercar Pininfarina Battista

3. IPM Motors(IPMM)

Interior Permanent Magnet Motor (IPMM) are also being used by some 2 Wheeler EV Manufacturer for their High-Performance Electric Motorcycle.

4. ACI Motors(ACIM)

AC Induction Motor(ACIM) is also being used by some EV Manufacturers in 2 Wheeler and 4 Wheeler.

5. PMSRM

Permanent Magnet Switched Reluctance Motor(PMSRM) is used in Tesla Model 3.

Just wait until people start thinking. They'll be mounting a Briggs and Stratton in the rear end with an extra large gas tank to drive an alternator to drive the motor, especially when they can not afford to replace battery.

The brushless motors are ac, the esc switches the coils on an off, but it has a dc power supply

Motor at 0:55 is of synchronous reluctance type.

So maximum motors consist of permanent magnets except Tesla roadstar which uses an induction motor. But I think induction motors are more robust and highly efficient because of non-use of permanent magnets.
