Per Anne Catherine Emmerich, Pontius Pilate didn't want to punish Christ because he had recently healed his son of epilepsy as well as his wife Claudia's dreams, his wife left him afterwards and fled to Lazarus' s and became a disciple for Christ.

Love this episode!
Thank you for this another collaboration between The Catholic Talk Show and Jimmy Akin.

At one point, I also wondered what happened to Pilate after he asked "What is truth?" to the Truth Himself.
That if Pilate was cursed during or after the Crucifixion. It turned out Pilate highly likely lived longer and spared from the consequences.

That question often reverberates after "a friend" asked the same thing from my post, questioning its veracity simply because it is against his beliefs.

I've long been intrigued by the account of Pilate's interrogation of Christ as related in the Gospel of John. The account very deliberately makes the point that Pilate came outside his palace as the Jews would not enter it for fear of defilement. Then it states that Pilate had Christ brought *into* his palace for his interrogation. The exchange between Pilate and Christ inside of Pilate's palace is described in great detail, word for word. Somebody was able to relate the account to the writer of the Gospel with great specificity, and it was likely not a native Jew. I've long mused over who in that setting later made sure the account was related to the Gospel writer. Pilate's wife? Perhaps a scribe recording the proceedings? Maybe Pilate himself?

The cycle of radio plays by Dorothy L. Sayers, The Man Born to be King, also has an interesting take on the Good Thief, one that Sayers said wasn’t necessarily correct but works dramatically. The thief initially thinks that Jesus is delusional, and says “remember me, when you come into your kingdom, ” to humor a harmless madman. Only when Jesus says “today you will be with me in Paradise” does the thief realize that Jesus is who claims to be, and believes. The thief spoke out of kindness initially, and was rewarded (with both faith and salvation) for showing kindness even when being crucified himself.

Reading Mathew always gave me the impression that Pilot was reluctant and worn out not wanting the Jews to revolt again.

I always thought that pontus pilate was from pont region in modern day turkey on the shores of the black sea and that’s why he was called pontus pilate. Good to know that it was his family name in rome and not related to the region.
