Altec Lansing Before & After; The Company, and The Speakers

At a recent estate sale, I picked up a pair of Altec Lansing Design 5 bookshelf speakers that were originally known as the "Altec Atlantic" model. The owner had given this pair a few coats of paint to go with their decor over the years. In this video, we remove that paint, recover the grills, and end up with a classic pair that are quite enjoyable to listen to. We also look at the history of the Altec Services Company which then bought James B. Lansing's (JBL founder) audio company. It proceeded to develop and pioneer significant audio innovations for the next 40-ish years. However, it has become a lifestyle brand/ company with little or no technology innovation over the last 40-ish years. Enjoy!!

I remember Altec Lansing's speakers in the 70's had what they termed 'dynamic force' woofers that boasted 17 pound magnet structures.

At least ESS labs are still around. American-made speakers with unmatched clarity for the price.

Hi man, a friend had a pair of Altec Lansing model 994 speakers in his cellar, I bought them, they sound wonderful, I can't find any information online, can you tell me in which year they were built, and how much they are worth today? Thanks
