What Nobody Told You About Pearl Jam

In the '90s, rock and roll music was gradually moving away from big hair and glam metal bands to alternative rock and grunge sounds. One of the key bands of the grunge movement was Seattle’s Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam broke into mainstream music with their debut album, "Ten," in 1991. But the band members often shunned the popular music industry and and seldom participated in interviews. Even though the band were not fans of mainstream music, they still became one of the most influential bands of the decade. But besides their legacy in the rock and roll genre, here’s what nobody told you about Pearl Jam.

They don't really care about money. That's why I love them.

In 1991, "Ten" changed my life forever as a teenager. I've probably listened to that album more than any other. "Vs" hit, and I wore that CD down the bone in similar fashion. "Vitalogy" came out, and I really enjoyed it, but not to the extent of the previous two. After that, I never bought another PJ album, not because I had a problem with them or anything, but the music didn't resonate with me like the early days. A band has a right to explore and change their style (and a lot of times, it's necessary to stay relevant), so I don't begrudge them that in the least. But for me, personally, it just doesn't get better than early-90's PJ. The Hendrix-like riffs mixed with teenage angst and aggression, that's the gold.

So much hate for Pearl Jam... They're one of the best rock bands of the last 30 years, period. They've sold millions of records, never broken up, appreciate their fans, done a crap ton for charity, and continue to fill stadiums. People calling artists "sellouts" just because they made it big are delusional. Although their sound has matured over the years, it's still easy to recognize any of their songs as Pearl Jam. I imagine most people who hate on the 90's rock are 80's hair hardos. To each his own, but I agree with Chris Cornell: "I don't care if I never hear a person write another song about a stripper or a motorcycle again, I don't care. It's not exciting to me."

I have read some comments talking bad about a legendary band! Nirvana actually said themselves that the band that inspired them the most was Green River, which was one of Jeff Ament and Stone Gassards earlier bands. Pearl Jam wasn't anything like Nirvana, I don't understand why people always go straight to that. Pearl Jam has never sold out, and has always stayed true to their fans. Pearl Jam has put out many records and are still putting them out today, not only that but they are still touring and sell out every show! The truth about Pearl Jam is they are great musicians and Great perfomers! Love them or hate them, they are in the Rock N Roll hall of fame and they are one of the Greatest bands of all time!

The fact that Pearl Jam’s music only once made it to the top 5 of the pop rock list shows how crappy most people’s taste in music can be.

I met my wife because of this band and after 31 years of marriage we've seen Pearl Jam 27 times on 3 different continents and 11 countries. We are diehard fans and can't imagine a life without their music ☺️👍

As a huge Pearl Jam fan and one that actually went to one of their 1995 concerts (when they were battling Ticketmaster), I gotta say, not much in this video that I didn't already know. But thanks for the video anyway. It would be good for newer fans to know these facts.

Best songs, foot steps and indifference, tremor Christ to name a few. Went to art school in 89 and 90. What a amazing time. Saw Pearl jam at the now famous Morre a theater. Saw Soundgarden at space Needle fair for $5 cover to get into fair!! Life changing. Both bands never sold out!! RIP Chris!! May Pearl jam stay safe and Rock another 30 years! Poster boys for true artistic integrity!! Poud to call them one of my 2 favorite bands!! Peace and love
