My experience with the app is rather bad though, but with enough images one can create a mostly accurate model

guys, I've done this exact process before, and there is one thing he didn't mention.
once you click the green check mark in 123d catch you'll have to insert your email and some other stuff, and after a while they will send you the results via your email so you can open it with 123d catch (I don't know about the iPad but this is how it's done on PC)

Just a thought... perhaps you could do a tutorial for making your own 3d printer. There are alot of open source code and models of 3d printers (and cnc mills). Perhaps it is alittle advanced but it would be a big help sorting through all the junk on the net.

does it have to be a picture you take or can it also be a picture you find online? and can you put that picture into udk or maya and animate it or make a video game centerd around the character in the picture?

Looks like 123D Catch no longer exists. Instead the link takes you to TinkerCAD. Which, so far, does not have the ability to process images into 3D models. So that sucks.
