We often argue about religion, but how are our arguments resolved? In this video, Pulitzer-prize winning author Jack Miles discusses three common ways in which arguments are typically resolved and proposes a fourth way to argue about religion and never lose—and to do so without abandoning our beliefs and convictions.

Jack Miles is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English and Religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine. His book 𝘎𝘰𝘥: 𝘈 𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺 won a Pulitzer Prize in 1996.

As a Muslim I am impressed by this man’s knowledge and I agree with this eternal postponement argument.

I like Jack Miles. He seems like a nice and sweet man. Overall, this video was amazing to watch and I really hope we can end this "I'm right, you're wrong!" debate peacefully so we can live harmoniously as one big happy family, my dear Christian and Jewish cousins.

It promotes humility instead of arrogance. Let’s leave the judgment about what we differ to the Judge. Great video. Thank you.

Very great from Mr. Jack Miles. I do hope humanity can approach this “Ideal” state. But unfortunately, it’s too “Ideal” to be
approached. Thank you Jack.

Qur'an 52:35-36
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain

It's not always an interpersonal loss, it's always been, for me, a personal loss. I'm depressed and anxious for many weeks after. :(

Can't wait for the premiere!

Jesus was Muslim

1. Jesus teaches Monotheism; the Oneness of Allah. (Mark:12:29).

2. Jesus believed he was a Messenger of Allah. (John, 17:3, John, 7:28, John, 8:42).

3. Jesus surrendered his will to Allah. (Mark, 3:31-35, Matthew:7:21).

4. Jesus was circumcised. (Luke, 2:21).

5. Jesus never ate pork. He despised pork. (Leviticus, 11: 7).

6. Jesus denied Trinity same as Muslims do.
(John:17:3).

7. Jesus had a beard and dressed modestly like Muslims.

8. Jesus performed ablution before prayer like all orthodox Jews do. Moses and Aaron and his sons used to wash their hands and feet. (Exodus, 40:31, John, 13:10).

9. Jesus believed only Allah has the knowledge of unseen. (Mark, 11:12-13, and 13:32).

10. Jesus worshiped Allah with his face on ground as Muslims do. (Matthew, 26:39).

11. Jesus used the greetings of peace and taught his disciples to greet each other (as he do). (Luke, 10:5, John, 20:19).

12. Jesus followed the LAW and forbade interest. (Exodus, 22:25).

13. Jesus fasted for more than a month. (Matthew, 4:1-2).

14. Jesus did not worship or wear the cursed cross.

15. Jesus never got drunk.

16. Jesus preached Jihad. (Luke, 22:35-36, Matthew, 10:32-34).

17. Jesus taught Salvation comes from submitting your will to Allah, Fath and good deeds same as Muslims do. (Matthew:7:21-23).

18. Jesus believed Miracles were from Allah. (John, 5:30, Acts, 2:22).

19. Jesus predicted he will survive the alleged crucifixion as as Muslims belief. (Matthew:12:40).

20. Jesus did not believe in Redemption by his Blood. (Matthew:5:17-20).

I love this gentleman's wise words. But as a Muslim, I believe the truth is provable and will always prevail. These stalemates imply that *both* sides are either wrong or right and that's simply not true. Overall, these are agnostic arguments. I don't advise waiting for too long either. None of us knows how long we have on this earth.

I like and agree on this argument! Nevertheless it doesn't means to stop calling others to what you believe God's only way and leave it to the listener to work his mind and agree or not. Finally God will judge who is right and who is wrong.

I think that the American method was able to make a monster and an enemy because of ignoring knowledge through direct dialogue.
It is clear that the absence of peaceful dialogue has left many peoples victims of negative incitement through media that exploited the listener's lack of knowledge....
The fifth method is not arguing for victory, but rather a discussion to learn about a culture that actually exists.
