Valheim #Shorts - Use gates to hold boats in place

A quick recommendation on how to keep your boats locked inside your dock.

If no one is in the boat, the boat won't drift away. You don't need gates or anything to keep the boat in one place

I do this, not to stop the boat, but to stop the creatures getting to the boat.
Mainly because I don't like having to break and pack my boats away constantly.

The moment no one is on a boat, it just stops. I tend to jump off mine when at my quay before it even comes to a stop and it just never moves (except up and down with waves).
Had a major storm once and the boat only went up and down. If you don’t have the boat directly above or bellow a structure or rock, it won’t ever take damage (my boats took more damage from doing these types of docks in the early days than monster attacks).

I wonder if a future update that they will add a way to tie up on the dock. That seems like something they would have in the game so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

Note that boats stop moving when you jump out of them.

The only danger to boats left alone are nearby hostile creatures. Drifting is not.
BTW, if you want to keep your boat safe, put it into a chest. Much cheaper than building a dock, and also does not lower your FPS.

Other than to just have it as a decoration to my base, I just break the boat down and store it in a chest. Can take it through portals this way to and build it elsewhere.

Boats don't move when you are not in them. I guess it's a nice aesthetic thing. Not at all needed though.

i built a 100ft long dock at my house before i built my raft, xD

This will destroy your boat. When a storm comes in the boat will bang against everything and get destroyed. Just park your boat a short swim away in deep water. Mine is sitting unscated for over 100 days

Until storm waves cause the boat to smash against the gate. The boat auto anchors when it's unmanned. I love all these tips from pro builders in dev mode that have never played a day in game.

i never understood why people lost their ship i never did anything special with my boat.. just crashing them into the shore and thats it.. never lost one.. sometime i would make a dock but only because it looks good

what's ur settings? I have rx 570, 8gb ram with i5 8gen processor, and it lags in ultra settings

The boats stay in place without gates, you are overcomplicating things :D
