The most beautifully written nonfiction books I've read: What Remains by Carole Radziwill, Know My Name by Chanel Miller, & Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.

The rec for "A Taste for Poision" was great. I don't really read non-fiction but I read it and loved it, and convinced my friends and family members with similar reading taste as me to try it too. They all loved it despite it not being something any of them would have normally read.

Thank you for these recs! I’ve been in a slump with fiction, because every book I’ve been reading makes me say “why do I even care”? My TBR just got even longer 😆 thank god for Libby

Thanks for the recommendations. Born a Crime was already on my to-read list and I've added A Taste for Poison.

If anyone is interested in medical memoirs/nonfiction, I've read a few good ones over the past couple of years. By far the most accessible is This Is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay. The TL:DR version of my Goodreads review was, "You'll laugh; you'll cry; you'll cringe." A deeper, more serious read is High Risk: Stories of Pregnancy, Birth, and the Unexpected by Chavi Eve Karkowsky, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. Not one to read if you're pregnant because it deals so much with high-risk pregnancies and what can go wrong, but fascinating otherwise. Finally, not a memoir but a history and current state of the sexual and reproductive parts of women (it does include info on both trans men and women as well as intersex people), there's Vagina Obscura: An Anatomical Voyage by Rachel E. Gross. All incredibly interesting books, but the first one especially, This Is Going to Hurt, is a very light introduction to medical nonfiction.

I think you would really enjoy The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold. It's an incredible look at the victims of Jack the Ripper and the lives they led - especially addressing a lot of misconceptions about not only these specific women, but many women of that time. I 'm stopping myself from explaining more because I'll end up just telling you about the entire book, lol, but please take a look at it!

I’d love to recommend for any sci-fi fans, especially of space, The Science of Interstellar by Kip Thorne. The author is the astrophysicist that led the AMAZING movie Interstellar (please watch it if you haven’t of course!) based on the actual current theories about black holes, time travel, space travel, other dimensions, and what humanity could possibly do to save the species if we could no longer live on Earth. It’s very good! Definitely more accessible to science minded people, or fans of hard sci fi.

I'd recommend From Here to Eternity as well as Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty for beginners, as long as you're comfortable reading about death.

I highly recommend Lab Girl by Hope Jahren. It's the memoir of a scientist (something to do with plants) but it's so much more than that. It's about found family and feeling like an outsider, and the politics of academia. I'd recommend just skipping the first chapter because it's really slow and not actually representative of the rest of the book. Super easy to read and just really good!

Thanks for the recommendations. A taste for poison seems right up my alley. As recommendations I would suggest atomic habits and factfulness. Super easy to read :)

Love this idea 🥰 I think that too many people find nonfiction unnecessarily intimidating!

I love this idea! I've been trying to get into non-fiction again and Brain of Fire and A Taste for Poison sound super interesting. I hope you make a part 2 of this!

Highly recommend The Feather Thief: Beauty, Obsession, and the Natural History Heist of the Century. SUCH a fun read and a fascinating story, I had to constantly remind myself that it was a Non-Fiction. Very easy non-fiction read for those that want a break from fiction but don't want something heavy or self-help.

My Libby borrowing limit is always cock-blocking me from immediately borrowing every book you recommend - I was able to get Islands of Abandonment though and I'm so excited to pick it up! you made it sound amazing! (I know I left a comment about it on your other video as well but if you like non-fiction with beautiful language: Underland by Robert Macfarlane - I promise I'm not his publicist or anything but his writing is beauuuutiful)
